A Brilliant Book, Explaining the Operas

Isaac Asimov was one of the most prolific writers of the 20th century, a polymath, and, best of all his talents, he was an explainer. He could make quantum physics clear to the layman. And he could take Gilbert and Sullivan and explain the operas, give away some of the secret jokes, explain what a chassepot rifle was, and so on. Brilliant material, and fun for G&S fans most especially!Read full review

Every Savoyard should own it!

This book belongs on the shelves of every Savoyard. With complete scripts for every G+S show, from _Thespis_ to _Utopia, Limited,_ along with Asimov's excellent footnotes to explain things that modern audiences might not get, as well as filling in the background on what was really going on with G+S, it's a joy to read.Read full review
