BT Smart Hub 6 FTTP Wireless Router

BT Smart Hub (HH6) : Neat kit

I bought this to replace my BT Openreach Modem and my 802.11n router. This has cut down the number of 'boxes' by one, reduced the amount of spaghetti and also provides me with a stronger, faster wi-fi signal.
The Smart Hub is not cheap (£130ish) if bought from BT or in a shop but inexpensive on eBay.
The instructions assume that BT have installed it and you are a BT customer. I'm with Plusnet and found plenty of easy to follow instructions on the Plusnet forums and elsewhere on net. Similar probably applies for other providers.
My only criticism is that the design of the feet means it can easily be knocked over with a gentle accidental touch - but this is easy to get round with careful positioning of the cables.

An improvement on the previous model

We use this on Plusnet who provide an earlier model as standard. We live in a tall large Victorian house and had problems with wifi coverage. This has improved things quite a lot. We still get local drop outs of service but I don't think it has anything to do with the router. I can get a full 70 mps download by wireless across much of the house and 20 upload which is as good as it can be on our service.Read full review

Runs slightly hot

Automatic band switching is a nice feature

Money well spent

When BT installed FTTP at my address they replaced my old hub 6 with a hub 5. Although it was reading I was getting 5x faster internet it was much slower due to the hub 5 not taking as many devices or being able to get the signal around my home as effectively. This new hub 6 means I am feeling the full potential of the fibre and not having issues in the room next door to my hub as before.
