This product is a great advance on what was available. The use and quality are just fine. My only exception is the size of the hopper. I find the it requires lots of stopping to refill the hopper. Accurater and simple to use

Had my doubts about its ability to evenly spread fine N scale ballast. Was very pleasantly surprised when it did just that. It lays down an even bed of ballast between the ties inside and outside of the rails. I did not use it around switch points but it does a great job on straight or curved rails. You have to do a bit of cleanup with a small brush afterwards. Keep in mind that it is better to under fill the device. If it is too full it will dump whatever is left onto the rails when you lift it up..

Handy little ballast spreader, works well.

It has no moving parts, is rugged and does its job well. Maybe you can spread ballas nicely by hand, but I can't.

Good idea in theory

Center port is too large and deposits too much ballast to make it a foolproof time saving device. If the center port can be reduced in size, less ballast needs to be removed/pushed down the track.

Easy to use

I have always spread my ballast by hand, using a spoon or measuring cup. Because of the amount of track I had to put ballast on I decided to try a spreader. the first one I got was not very efficient and I was told that the Bachmann spreader worked very good. I purchased the Bachmann Spreader and found it to work very effectively and with ease. I recommend the Bachmann Ballast Spreader to all Train Hobby Enthusiast .

Flow control

Needs some kind of flow control , I find that I pour my ballast from a small container into the spreader it works great, this way I control the flow.
