Let's face it, the movie isn't Oscar winning material. It's a simple family type movie. It is very formulaic. A dad with solid principles trying to teach his son a lessons on hard work and dedications. The whole notion of fishing is man vs. fish. The thought of leaning patience, learning the lake, and skill vs. high tech gadgets and slick expensive equipment, The little guy who represents a slower more peaceful time vs corporate greed.
