easy install but not suitable for every bike
it has a good geometry for chains that are close to have proper tension without a tensioner. it was not good for my set up, as even with a half link, I cannot get a tight chain. 2" play is usual on my bike with 104 links. so after 20 mins install, it was not better than just using the stock tensioner. this set up cannot give more tension, actually a little less. it has very short travel. it will be good for some bikes.
fit and finish was excellent. plate has a black wrinkle finish and machined very well. the spring is very stiff, but just has a very short angle radius of travel as it's designedRead full review

Easy on budget, but needs wide cranks or high engine mount (e.g., a small frame).
WHY I CHOSE IT:
At $21, it was half the price of the Duluth Cycle tensioner of the same variety.
WOULD I CHOOSE IT AGAIN?
Only if I had a bike with wide cranks, because making it useful required extra machining on multiple bikes.
PROS:
- This tensioner is probably the best value for its style (the kind that bolt on to the clutch lever cover, a "must have" upgrade from the stock type tensioners)
- Good fit to the motor
- Provides a good chainline when installed
NEUTRAL:
- Does not come with a roller wheel / sprocket; this could be a + or - depending on the customer. For me, it was a plus since I had a spare.
CONS:
- Very low angle of travel
- Clearance issues. Unlike more expensive versions, this does not use recessed bolts, so on larger frames, where the motor sits closer to the bottom bracket, most cranks will not clear the lower tensioner/clutch cover mounting bolt head or the bolt assembly for the guide wheel. I have tried this on a couple bikes with both 3-piece and one-piece cranks, to no avail; they all required some grinding / machining of the top of the left crank arm to work. (cut a notch about 5mm wide into the top of the crank arm, to just below where the pedal mounts.Read full review

Great a must have for a motorized bicycle and its the cheapest option
It bolts up easy and it is adjustable. Its nice that it works with stock chain tensioner wheel. The problem is that one of the bolts included are not long enough to mount the chain guard. Which a quick trip to my local hardware store fixed. This is a must have for you bike if your frame area where the stock chain tensioner mounts is not round, which can create a unsafe mounting, the upgraded chain tensioner fixes that. And for 20 buck you cant beat it, considering other sell almost the same thing for upwards of 40 plus dollars.Read full review

Some info on this tensioner
I was having many issues with this tensioner. My chain kept getting jammed up in the motor. Not enough tension was being placed. I tried to take out links but one link removed and it was too short. Also drilled another hole higher to get more tension. Still could not get the correct tension. Finally I got the jackpot, someone else mentioned getting a more stiff spring so I did that. When I was installing the new spring I noticed that if I adjusted how my motor was sitting I could get the proper tension. After the struggles, the tensioner is very good. Much better than stock, how this helps.Read full review

A good option
The price is "mid-range" for a spring loaded 415 chain tensioner, but the design and function are closer to the more expensive ones. This uses the OEM roller by default. I also purchased a CNC hub adapter that uses the OEM sprocket by default. They work well together and align perfectly.Read full review

Did not fit my 80cc Super Cycle Cruiser
did not fit my Supercycle Beach Cruiser bike. bolted on and would not put any tension on my bike chain at max load. Chain was already shortened to the max. Could not get it to fit no matter what i did. Probably would have fit if i had a different bike frame where the rear wheel was closer to the motor but on my frame this did nothing. Stick with your factory tensioner. Never had a issue with it and tensions great.Read full review

Nice item
These should be included in all moored bike kits. The original tensioner is junk, this one makes install easy and clean. And for a great price

Best chain tensioner
There are several aftermarket chain tensioners out there.
I build motorized bikes. The stock chain tensioners are the cause of many problems.
This chain tensioner solves most of them.
It is the best I've seen.Read full review

Fast shipping, great product
Excellent chain tensioner because of its simplicity of design and quality of build. It comes with the two longer bolts that you need to place the tensioner plate over the existing clutch cover. You can reuse the third longer bolt that came along with the engine kit as it is long enough for this chain tensioner plate and the chain guard. The spring is of good quality. The only thing missing is the roller which you can take off the chain tensioner that came with your engine kit and use it with this chain tensioner. I highly recommend this item as a replacement for the stock chain tensioner that comes with the standard engine kit. Please YouTube how to properly put the chain on bike engine sprocket. The key is to do it so that there is little slack on the top part of the chain with the slack at the bottom of the chain which you take up with this chain tensioner. Read full review
