Better than the Roomba that I used to have
I got the Black & Decker Pet Robotic Vacuum HRV420BP07 to replace an older model Roomba that had died about a year ago. Overall I have been impressed by how much better the B&D is.
The B&D vacuum does a better job around the edges of the room and even pretty deep into corners. The dustbin is larger and much easier to empty. It does better picking up small debris like pieces of dry dogfood. The brush does still clog from pet hair and string, but not as often as with my older model Roomba.
The automatic docking feature enables it to recharge itself when the battery gets low. BUT for the automatic docking to work, the vacuum MUST have a clear line of sight to the beacon on the charger. If it can't see the charger, it won't reliably find it. When it wants to dock (or when you use the app to tell it to dock) it moves at about half the speed that it normally travels while cleaning. Even if it is only a few feet from the charger and already pointed in the right direction it doesn't "home straight in" but instead zig-zags around until it finally docks. So far as I can tell from reading the manual and from watching it in operation, the B&D robotic vacuum does not learn the layout of the room or where its dock is located. While cleaning there is no obvious pattern to its movements, but it does somehow manage to cover the entire room.
The B&D robotic vacuum does not get stuck under furniture as often and doesn't seem to get as confused when it wanders in between the chair legs at the dining table (my older model Roomba would get get confused bumping around among the chair legs, then give up, stop, and beep waiting for someone to come rescue it).
The B&D app that lets you control the vacuum from your phone is interesting to play with, but not especially useful unless you want to program the vacuum to clean a room on a schedule while you are gone. Scheduled cleaning is really only practical for one area that is all within sight of the charger. If the vacuum is out of sight of the dock when the battery gets low, it probably won't find its way back to the dock.
My old Roomba was a much lower model that didn't have features like automatic docking, but it did come with a "virtual wall" that used an IR beam to keep it from going through an open doorway or into an area you wanted it to avoid. The B&D vacuum has a sensor to stop it from falling down stairs or any sort of dropoff, but on a flat floor it needs a physical barrier to stop it from going anywhere. Black and Decker really needs to develop a similar virtual wall system for their robotic vacuums.

Sad, confused robots.
I tried two. The first one worked overnight before becoming a screaming banchee. Nobody wants that, so I sent it back and ordered another.
This one ran fine, until it threw itself down the stairs. Although it ejected it’s collection box, it otherwise survived the fall. And the next, and the next. We had to put fireplace logs across the threshholds to prevent this behavior. It clearly couldn’t see the stairs.
We considered SSRIs or an intervention, but decided these options were too bothersome to waste on a robot, so returned it.

Loving this robotic vacuum
I can find no fault with this Black and Decker vacuum. It does a really good job keeping my floors clean of dog hair. Finds its dock every time. It does a very good job on both hard wood floor and area rugs. You sacrifice the under furniture cleaning for the larger capacity trash bin. It is larger than most robotic cleaners but it covers a bigger area on each pass. If you have fur babies and a lot of hard wood you are going to love this vacuum.Read full review

2 Front Spinners HUGE Collection Container
This is by far the best robot vacuum I have ever used. It is great having 2 front spinning brushes, like no other has. These are a great extra feature. I truly love the large collection tub & how it is accessible from the top rather than the side. I set Alfred up to run every other day via their App, for a specific time, and off he goes. Great floor drone
I've had the old red Roomba and a Chinese knock off. They are both junk compared to this. It is super easy to empty, program and use. It even kicks up the suction when it gets on the rug.
