Much cheaper than a new alternator

Drop in replacement part to restore a dead alternator. If your brushes are worn or the springs weak then it’s a good bet. Check the condition of the recipient item before investing in a regulator. Are the bearings good ? Do the diodes still work ? Field windings all check out ? Slip rings in good order ?
Clean the surfaces of oxidisation and make sure the voltage sense loop is shiny copper before assembling.
