Works well once set up.

I bought this because I have several woody shrubs in my garden that are growing out of control and need to be disposed of. From previous experience I needed a shredder that would handle as large a diameter branch as I could practically get and a shredder that could easily stored away when not in use. The Bosch AXT25TC fitted the bill.

When it arrived, I needed to read the instructions a few times to be able to put it together and use it.

Getting the shredder out of the shed to an area where I was working proved problematical until I realised that it would be a lot easier with the shredder assembled as it was quiet unstable moving it over the ground. Once this was done it was comparatively easy moving it around.

Previously I had had a Bosch shredder with an Archimedes Screw that shredded the branches. I found this worked OK but was prone to blockages and would not handle soft material. The AXT25TC works differently; it has a cone with cutter along the outside.

When I first started it up, I found that strips of wood were accumulating around the face of the cutter. In the instructions it said that the cutter was set up by the factory but in my case it didn’t appear to be the case necessitating me to adjust the pressure plate, an easy job but one needing an Allen key or spanner (not supplied by Bosch, it’s an extra). After adjustment I worked a lot better.

It is fairly quiet to use but it does make some noise, if that makes sense. I think the level of noise is similar old my old Bosch shredder with the Archimedes screw.

When shredding it is vital not to try to rush the job. You cannot just shove material into the hopper as this will potentially overload it. You need to feed branches in, one at a time. Also, you need to make sure that the branches are reasonably straight, or will easily bend reasonably straight, otherwise the hopper becomes clogged. Its consequently a slow old job which I find is best done by pruning a few branches then shredding them then pruning a few more and so on.

Some comments have been made about using an extension cable and the need for a heavy duty one when you are over 25 yards from the mains outlet. I have not experienced this issue despite having a long extension.

Getting it logged on to the Bosch web site is proving an issue to get the extended garantee. Firstly I had to find the serial number which was under the wiring. Once I knew where it was it was fine but ... Then navigating the Bosch web site was an issue on my phone - I must use the PC!

In conclusion, in my experience it is a good shredder once you are used to the idiosyncrasies. Shredding with it is not quick but does reduce the volume of waste making disposal easier or composting sensible.

Good value for money if you have a small garden

The item was shipped to another EU country and the ventilation slot cover arrived partially damaged. This appeared caused by a too fragile plastic and the BOSH original package unsuitable for international shippings. As I have a large area of land, I tried to use two extensions cables up to 35 m. in total, but the shredder did't work and the two lights blinking continuosly. The troubleshooting suggested that the extension cable was unsuitable, in fact it turned out that it finally started working when directly connected to the power outlet.

Regarding the positive notes, the turbine looks good and powerful. Although I recognise that I should have bought a more powerful shredder as I have several hundred Kg. of branches, I recognise that it cuts well and relatively fast, particularly is the wood is not wet or humid.
Access for cleaning and perhaps sharpening the turbine blades seems easy.

In the USA there is no good choice for an Electric Garden Chipper.

In the USA we are sold 120vac electric chippers. You can spend $150 to $200 to buy a very cheap Asian made shredder that is under powered and makes a lot of noise spinning itself into a quick death, or spend $1100 for a more rugged chipper from Patriot that takes a beating but still is an under power screamer. In Europe and other countries where 230 volts is used, 2600 watt chippers are available like the Bosch that quietly chew up branches with power to spare and last many years. I run this one from 240vac and can not figure out why we have to suffer with under powered tools on 120vac. This chipper is fun to feed.Read full review...

Excellent Shredder.

Purchased this shredder for all year round use and I think it might be the tool for the job, it could be even better still with a few tweeks to the design bigger tabs for holding the power cable, make the gearbox quiter also put extra handle on for lifting in and out of vehicles and for up and down steps . Those are the things that could make it even more versatile, but overall a nice piece of kit highly recommended.Read full review...

It does what it says on the tin

I have purchased quiet a few electric and one petrol drive shredder. All of the electric ones have been returned to the store within a week due to them breaking. The petrol shredder lasted about a year before I outed it. This Bosch AXT 25TC is incredible! it works well, it handled a pile of old hedge trimmings, some of them were right on the maximum diameter that you can feed in.
An excellent product.

excellent for medium sized garden waste

chops up branches and leaves better and quieter than the atx2000 it has replaced, only time will tell if the blade and motor will last,
the only downside is the cost of a replacement blade when its needed, almost as much as a new machine. that's why I have only given 4 starsRead full review...

Heavy duty shredder

This shredder will deal efficiently with larger branches and twigs than more lightweight models.
The resulting material is not as finely shredded as an impact shredder, but can still be used as a mulch or for adding to a compost heap.
it is not designed to deal with flimsy plant residue.

Quiet, best for larger clippings.

Much less noisy than I was led to believe.Does not shred soft green waste finely, but merely crumples it. Not good for thick hard dried wood cuttings. Instruction booklet absolutely shocking. Poorly described, misleading. hard to comprehend, poorly labelled diagrams. A black mark for Bosch.Read full review...

First use

Ran it for over a hour on a variety of branches from pruning apple trees and shrubby offcuts from rest of garden, some wet and some dry and withered from previous pruning. Its like a Rolls Royce, no blockages and fast and the product less than 20mm in length.
This unit replaced my Bosch Rapid 2200 which failed (loss of motor speed) and unfortunately just out of guarantee.
My initial experience of this new machine is v. positive. It is very expensive but has a 3yr guarantee. Time will tell. If you are considering the Rapid XT bear in mind that it does block, is 3x slower than the 25TC and the blade needs regular sharpening and product length is poor. Can be 20mm to 60mm or even longer.

A good, robust machine.

It is a good and robust machine which copes well with the average garden hedge clippings. Don’t expect it to work like a hired petrol one, you need to feed it more carefully but it does do the job.
