Base on a true story. A bit of modern history that some folk may not know. Story a little plodding, but the tension builds up. The main characters are played wonderfully, especially Mark Rylance's performance was spellbinding.

This Dvd is one of Tom Hanks Not so Good Roles.
I found the Movie to be Drab, and slow-moving, Lost interest within the 1st 15 minutes of the Movie.

A slick Spielberg retelling of a tense period in Soviet American relations. Everything in this film is tried and tested, from the cast of notables to the direction, costume, pacing and stylish cinematography. But does this make for a good viewing experience? Yes, though it's an average film and pretty unmemorable. Mark Rylance seems underused, with his range of expression being typically minimal. Tom Hanks is just Tom Hanks. Another 'Tour de Force' by Spielburg & Hanks

Speilburg and Hanks deliver yet another masterpiece. This is probably a little known snippet of cold war history, which combined with the erection of the Berlin Wall makes for facinating viewing. Having visited Berlin BEFORE the wall came down, I fully understand how divisive and oppressive it was. The Gary Powers storyline for me was of particular interest as although not mentioned in the film, this was the SAMR time period when Lee Harvey Oswald was said to have defected and been in Minsk, Russia. Oswald returned to the US a short while after Powers was exchanegd and also
