I’ve loved “Brigadoon” for decades. It’s a classic for a good reason. A love story with a bit of fantasy involved. Top notch acting, dancing, singing and directing. The people involved: Gene Kelly (actor and choreographer), Cyd Charisse, Van Johnson and Vincente Minnelli (Director).

Phenomenal, but obscure musical.

When it originally came out, it is my understanding that it didn't do well at the box office. Mainly because it was released in an era of block busters. You know the kind, The Wizard of Oz, Gone With the Wind, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, and a myriad of others.

This obscure musical has lavish tunes and a lavish score by the Broadway team Lerner and Loew. They didn't collaborate much unlike their rivals Rodgers and Hammerstein.

Just the same, Lerner and Loew's majestic score and the enchanting story of this small village in the highlands of Scotland, combine to make this fantastic fantasy.

Few movies and even fewer musicals captivate the imagination like Brigadoon. Perhaps Lost Horizon , by James Hilton, comes closer to captivating the imagination, but this captures the sights and sounds of the Scottish Highlands and the wonder of an obscure and fanciful legend.

It is well worth your time and money.
It is entertaining and memorable. A movie and a musical far ahead of its time.

one only need watch a movie like Brigadoon to be drawn away from the world around us.
Recommended for all, young and old. If car chases and exploding all around get stale, try something different.
