Replacing old JVC
My old JVC amplifier which I bought in 1978 has just developed a fault for the first time in it's long life and I needed a rapid replacement as I use hi-fi daily. The Cambridge Audio replacement is not quite as good or powerful as my JVC but is good value. It lacks a built-in pre-amp for vinyl record playing so I have had to buy one, which I did not need with my JVC, but in terms of value for money, I can't fault it.Read full review...

1000's sold new and still popular used.
I like Cambridge Audio A1 amplifiers and have passed on many to buyers just starting out in hi-fi. If they had a built in phono-stage for a turntable, it would be an easy 5 stars and competition for NAD and Rotel at this end of the market.Read full review...

Good all rounder
Excellent budget amplifier. A bit short on facilities, but the sound quality at the price cannot be faulted. More expensive amplifiers obviously do certain things better, but there is no area where this does not perform pretty well. It drove a pair of Spendor SP1 speakers in a 30 sq m room to fairly high sound levels, but it will be mainly used with Wharfedale Diamonds (v9.0) in a smaller room.
Build quality is good. All the controls feel solid. The inside is relatively spacious and there seems to be no problem with heat dissipation. On the model I bought (25 years old?) some leakage from the electrolytic caps is evident, and I shall replace these in due course.Read full review...

Nice little Amplifier
Reasonably priced kit although I would definitely prefer if it came with a phono pre-amp already built-in. I bought it without a lot of research - I should have really, I bought it to listen to LPs and to my surprise it didn't have one. More research showed that Cambridge Audio had separate kits to install but they cost a bit too dear so I had to shell out for a separate pre-amp.
All in all, I probably will replace this with a vintage 70s Akai eventually because I prefer the look & sound of those but until then it is a quite reasonable replacement and you can't beat the cost for the quality.Read full review...

Description not accurate and lacking detail
"Tested and in full working order."
No.
The volume has suffered for some reason and has to be turned up to maximum to hear anything. When it arrived I noticed the volume control was turned to very high and reduced it before trying it with the turntable and speakers. I soon understood why this was.
Looking for another amplifier. Read full review...
