Cambridge Audio DacMagic 100 DAC. Good value

I wasn't sure what the condition would be on this unit as it was refurbished but I was very pleased to see that it looked like brand new. I found that the phono connectors needed more a push than I'm used to but having given that extra push the sound came through loud and clear.

Great features, great price. Failed after 2 days.

Pro: for 2 days it was excellent. Brought out the sound character of my Naim amplifier, extended bass and detailed mid-range, clear treble but not shrill. Easy to set up and lots of connection options.
Con: Unfortunately, on the second day it died. Switched itself off and when restarted it showed only a single flashing blue LED. Neither on/off switch nor input selection switch worked. Had to pull pug to switch off. Several attempts, same result.

Great sound with the right amp amd speakers

With the right pairing of amp and speakers the DAC is excellent. Very authentic sound, not synthetic, brings CD to life. Needs careful pairing or the base can sound a tad light.
