Canon EF 2x III: Worth it!
Very nearly as sharp as the 70-200 2.8 IS II without the extender, though just a tough soft wide open at infinity. Doubles the focal length but does not affect the lens' minimum focus distance, so even useful for some light macro work. Fast enough focusing to catch birds in flight. Quick and easy to attach and detach.
It does throw the weight a bit to the rear when rig is mounted on tripod with lens collar, so lock it in tight or upgrade your head. Not really suitable for freehand shooting. Do keep in mind that doubling your focal length requires a faster shot to avoid motion blur.
Bottom line: it beats shelling out for a longer L lens.Read full review

Great price!
For $35 more than a used one do yourself the favor and just get a brand new one. It's not a USA model i.e. It doesn't come wth the canon warranty card, but any real photographer should have their own insurance on their gear. From what I can see (using a 70-200 2.8 IS II) the image is still tack sharp and the AF is still fast and reliable. Instead of buying the the 100-400 this is a much better option. Another huge plus is that I can keep it in my bag incase I need more reach where if I had another separate long lens I'd never take it with me and risk losing a shot. Read full review

Another excellent Canon product.
Great lens adaptor. Adds another dimension to your lens toolbox. Our only gripe is that while the Canon 100-400 zoom lens is listed as compatible electrically; it is not. That one has to be used manually. If you are on a budget, and can't afford both a 1.4 and the 2.0; get the 1.4 first. It is more adaptable in most situations.Read full review

Works really well as expected, I recommend this if paired with Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS USM II
Excellent for portability, price while maintaining quality of the images. I did not experience any slower AF and over all the Auto Focus when paired with Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS USM II is super fast. In addition I get max aperture of 64 with my lense.Read full review

Positively surprised
We are currently on a road trip and am using the extender for the first time. I'm using it with my 100-400 Canon lens. So far I'm really happy with the result. Got some fantastic, close up bear photos. The only negative so far is that it sometimes takes a while to focus. I was hesitant to buy it as reviews were mixed. I'm glad I bought it and so far has been great for wildlife photos. Read full review

Wow
I have been very impressed with the crispness and clarity of this adaptor. It has turned my 70-200 IS USM L into my go-to lens for nature photography! Great way to save money and double your focal length at the same time!Read full review

Canon 2x extender not cheap but great.
Found used one in great shape for around 80 less than most. Love wildlife photography and with my 70 200 canon it really gets out there. Focus works well with it...maybe a tad bit slower. Red headed woodpecker or as it is sometimes called...the flying checkerboard. Check us out at coldspringmountainretrievers.Read full review

A must for bird and wildlife photography.
I have owned all three versions of the Canon 2X Extenders.. Version III is the fastest focusing extender. In my opinion it has one disadvantage: Version III Does Not Allow Stacking multiple Extenders due to a change in design. On occasions I will use two Version II Extenders stacked. Otherwise Version III is Excellent.Read full review

Lightweight and Sharp
I purchased this extender to use on my Canon 70-200 f2.8 L IS lens. The images are amazing and I can hand hold this combination with no problem and get tack sharp results. I haven't had an extender for quite some time but since I didn't want a 'birding' lens per say as I am mostly a portrait and wedding photographer I went this route. The 2X extender is great value without having to purchase another lens to carry around.Read full review

Equal in quality to the Canon L series lenses it is made for.
Very well made and solid construction. Matches the high quality of the f2.8 70-200mm Canon L series lens I matched it to. A little pricy and you do lose 2 f stops as with any other 2x converter, but neither of these should be a reason not to get it. I got sharp pics with it similar to the pics from the lens without a converter.Read full review
