It's a good basic digital camera

A good basic camera if you understand its limitations. It goes through batteries like it's water but for a good reason. This camera has a fairly large LCD size for its class, a 3" LCD. This coupled with the fact that it has no viewfinder, largely attributes for its voracious appetite for the batteries.

Then again, if you never owned a Canon camera, there is a learning curve. Takes time and patience but doable.

This camera like many others of different brands, has a plastic exterior. The plastic contributes to the battery door malfunction in which case you won't be able to take pictures until fixed. The fixes are available on the internet; all of them are temporary. The permanent one is to replace the battery door that requires some skills and the part costs about $26 and up. I would rather not bother but buy a new (used) camera for about the same amount of money. This however is not unique to SX130 IS. Nearly all point-and-shoot cameras are susceptible to it. The tripod port is located very close to said door that no doubt contributes to the door going broken.

Overall like I said, a good beginning digital camera with a good optical zoom and great features. Not very good for the low light shots though.

Good Functional Camera-That Eats Batteries for Lunch!

This is my second SX130 - which is a good Second Camera in my Collection - Good and Easy Picture Taking Quality - But 1.) a Battery System that Had to be designed by a Fool - It requires a change in Batteries every other day and 2.) A shell engineered and designed by the same fool - I have seen hundreds of this Camera advertised on e-bay " for parts " where the camera has become useless because of the poor quality of the "plastic" used to make the shell (i.e. -the hatch on the battery/sd card compartment, on my first SX130, cracked and made the camera unusable and un-fixable - Thus I purchased my next SX130 USED at a price that makes sense for the product (under &50.00)Read full review

Vlery happy with this Canon camera

This is my 3rd Canon camera and I am very pleased with the easy features it has and the quality of the pictures. They have a real sharpness about them and I always get comments about the colorful picture that I take with the camera. I have bought this same camera for two of my family because of my happiness with this camera.Read full review

Easy to use with great picture quality.

This is an older model Canon of course, but the ease of use and picture quality still stands up.
Of course you should use rechargeable AA batteries in this camera. I recommend Sanyo Eneloop.
Even the 720p videos look good also.Read full review

Just a good and easy to use camera. Actually I have two of these...keep one in the car....If I wanted another camera, I would buy the same.

Battery Eater

This camera is nice. Easy to use and the pics are great considering the 12.1 mp limit. It's good though because it's easy to use. No complicated settings or issues. Manual Pop up flash is nice too....one less automatic setting to have to worry over. BUT...this thing eats batteries like a starving dog! For this reason I can't recommend it. I spent an additional 40+ bucks on a rechargeable kit direct from Canon but even then those batteries run dry after just a few pix. Waste of money all the way. Sorry Canon but his one is a dog!Read full review

Good and not high priced.

This camera was great for our 12 year old daughter. She has taken great scenery shots and even pictures of the moon. She has it alone on family trips and zoo visits, etc. And the picture quality is great considering what we paid for the SX130 Canan.Read full review

Replaced an old friend

I bought this model about 10 years ago, so when the battery compartment door broke, and I shopped for a replacement, I realized that this same model was what I wanted, because of features and familiarity, and was happy to find a replacement at a good price.Read full review

Compact, Awesome Telephoto, & Great Pictures

I love, love, love the telephoto - you can see the face of a football player on the field! Same with video. I also love all the settings like: beach, fireworks, low light, vivid photos, etc. I owned this camera, the door that holds the batteries in place broke, I had it taped for years and finally decided to look for the same camera online. So glad I found it! It is also compact enough to fit in a purse, it is my 'go to' travel camera. Pictures turn out great!Read full review

Canon Powershot

This replaced the same model camera that quit functioning. We like the size and ease of operation.
