Better than Nikon

I used to have a Nikon Coolpix S9600 that had 16 megapixels and 22x zoom. It was a good camera, but alas, it somehow snapped off the shutter button and the zoom tab, one month out of warranty. Nikon wanted $125 to fix it and nobody else could get the parts because Nikon will release them only to their licensed repair stations. . I only paid $179 for the camera so that told me all I ever needed to know about buying another Nikon. I researched and bought this Canon Powershot SX710HS. It has 22 megapixels and 30x optical zoom. It cost me just $20 more than the Nikon and the independent repair station I took the Nikon to assured me that if the Canon has any problem out of warranty, he can get parts to fix it, unlike the Nikon. I just returned from a cruise to Mexico and took alot of pictures. They came out great!Read full review

Features are good

Wasn't real impressed with image quality . Doesn't seem real sharp . HD video is really grainy , must have to have bright sunlight . I've only had it a couple of weeks so maybe I'll find some settings to make it better . I've had several Canon cameras all the way back to my FTb and F1 . Maybe too many bells and whistles and not enough quality now .Read full review

Decent camera for the price.

Decent camera for the price. You will find this camera at Walmart for over $300 plus Tax. On line I paid $210. It will work as a nice back up to keep in my pocket. Image quality seems pretty good. The one thing you will have to get used to is to manually put up the flash yourself with a tiny switch. Inside pictures are ok with this camera. You will find that you get some great pictures and some so so inside a darker room. It is necessary that you most always use the flash when taking inside pictures. The pictures with the flash come our in a decent quality. Outside of course the photos will be very nice. All in All its a decent little camera. The one thing that sold me on this camera was the HD 1080 Video. Now I must be honest here... I am comparing this camera to my Canon EOS 80d.Read full review

Canon Digital Camera SX710

easy to use in auto mode; automatically adjusts mode between closeups, portraits, scenery, etc. WiFi image transfer works well with PC and Android devices; not so good with smart TV. good telephoto, but hard to hold steady at greater than about 10X (get a tripod). Lens cover flimsy and could be damaged when the camera is stuffed in a pocket. function dials and buttons are small and hard to read or adjust, but most users will leave the camera set to auto. battery must be removed from the camera for charging. no internal memory therefore an SD card is required. no cords supplied for A/V or HDMI connections, but most have a few of these laying about. a mini HDMI to HDMI cable is needed to connect to TV. good size and weight to slip into a pocket, but watch that lens cover.Read full review

Canon Powershot SX710

Excellent camera that takes excellent pictures. No need to carry a bulky camera. Good battery life.
Does everything I need it for. Could not be happier. Does everything well. Easy to use and set up.
Fits in my pocket. Has every feature you can think of. Has tremendous zoom capability. This is truly a must buy if you want quality. Like they say you get what you pay for but in this case you get a lot more. Well worth every penny. I have been using canon cameras for over 30 years. This replaces the tried and true SX130.

nice lightweight camera...

Just started using and the pictures are coming out great so far. One thing I don't understand is why Canon moves around the features with each camera, I've been using Canons for over 12 yrs now and have to get use to where they are on each camera. The zoom is great, close and distinct...another down side would be the flash; it does'nt come on automatically like all the others I've had but needs to pushed up manually. All & all it's a great little camera with all the amenities sent along with it, especially the extra batter.Read full review

Great zoom camera

When looking for a camera I was looking for a small camera with a decent zoom, simple to use, and at a good price. I choose the Canon PowerShot SX710 HS. I've only used it a couple of times since buying it but it is easy to use and so far I like it. I wish the battery life was a little longer. It may have been but I did look through the photos I had taken a few times. I'm going to buy another battery to keep on hand, just in case.Read full review

Fair camera

The camera has some nice features besides the large zoom range. I like the easy way to get to manual focus and also exposure override to bump the exposure up or down a little. Pictures in dimly lit scenes are not so great but acceptable for this price point.Read full review

Simple Yet Extremely Capable Camera

Took the camera to the Caribbean and it performed great. Easy to carry around but capable of taking those "big" camera shots. The zoom and clarity are fantastic. I prefer the simpler point and shoot camera as opposed to carrying a big camera with multiple lenses. The Canon SX710 HS dominates my other point and shoot camera and holds it's own with the big cameras in all ways. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SIMPLICITY/EASE AS WELL AS A WIDE RANGE OF CAPAPBILITIES STOP LOOKING. (UNLESS YOU ARE A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER, IN WHICH CASE WHY EVEN READ THIS)Read full review

Excellent camera after you learn how to use it.

I found that for low light conditions the focus does not work very well. I run it almost exclusively in "Live" mode which seems to provide the best results. Manual focus does not work very well, however the other features like the large sensor, and the "IS" software make up for it.Read full review
