The ORIGINAL Cardcaptor Sakura is a MUST SEE!

One of CLAMP's best-ever works! While slowly immersing myself into the world of 'anime', I came across this wonderful GEM of a series! Not only do I love the series (a 30-something mom), but my 10 yr. old son adores Sakura too! I lent the discs to my dad and *he* loves Sakura! He lent them to my Aunt and she wants more!! The 16 year old girl next door borrowed the discs and she wants to buy them for herself! We just can't get enough of all the sweet and mysterious characters from the ORIGINAL Cardcaptor Sakura series! I have to mention the fact that the original is the best you can watch. (The best way to watch real anime is to watch it in it's original Japanese with subtitles.) As there is just no way the English translation ever fully seems to captivate the true personalities of the characters! In the Cardcaptors series (that aired on Cartoon Network some time ago),and even with the English audio on the original series, the characters (especially the lead character, Sakura) had a serious, almost arrogant, not sweet and innocent attitude (like the original). And the loveable, cutesy, but intelligent side-kick Kero-chan came off with a moron-like personality!? It was sad and I was just put off by the whole English translation of it!? Not only were the characters different in their personalities, (in the Cardcaptors series) but the story-line was changed too! No longer was it all about Sakura's quest to capture all of the Clow Cards, but suddenly it was about the whole "group" of friends battling and capturing the cards together. And while the original series does indeed make the viewer realize that without the help of her friends (in many situations), Sakura might not have succeeded; it truly is, without a doubt, SAKURA's quest to fulfill - and no one else's. Thoughts of the lousy English translation/re-make aside; Cardcaptor Sakura is truly engaging and exciting! Many characters are so absorbing that you just cannot wait till the next episode (which you won't have to do if you buy this boxed set!) And despite the fact that almost all episodes boil down to the same thing: capturing that loose card that's reaking havoc, you know there must be an end to it all, and waiting for the 'ending' is one of the most compelling aspects of the series. Though once it 'ends', it isn't over yet...and there is even more of the enjoyable, loveable characters to watch and grow with. Though eventually the series does finally end, and I cannot say how much I wish they would make more and more! At least with the boxed set you can go back and re-watch till your hearts' content! (I've probably watched each episode at least 3 or 4 times!!) Sakura and Kero-chan (as well as Tomoyo-chan, Li-kun and Yukito-san) have all forever etched a warm spot in my heart! They are like those characters in a book (CCSakura was, in fact, originally manga) that you just can't get enough of and don't want to let go of! Definitely a must buy, (even though the price might scare you at first), because if you see it once, you're definitely gonna want to see it again, and again!Read full review...
