Quirky & fun

A movie about a young woman with an extremely high IQ trying to manage her way through life with the help of her therapist. Her father procures her a night job with which she reluctantly takes. Through her therapist, co-workers, neighbor and someone met through a dating ad in the Village Rag she finally learns to let her guard down, enjoy life and make peace with her father for sending her to Harvard at an inappropriately young age of 14.Read full review

Getting Sorted Properly

When I ordered this DVD, I was under the impression that I was going to get an actual DVD and not a DVD-R. It was misleading. Even with the NTSC format, this movie's picture and sound would have been a lot better if it would have not been a DVD-R. It should be a standard silver plated, factory sealed DVD. Not a DVD-R. At least it could have been listed as DVD MOD. That gives you a heads up that it's probably a DVD-R instead of a standard professional DVD.
All that being said, I would have loved nothing more than to give this DVD a five-star rating because it is an absolutely fantastic movie which stars Bel Powley as Carrie Pilby. Her acting is beyond reproach and super fantastic as she portrays the character perfectly. The movie is funny and it has a wonderful plot to it.
A child of 14 years of age is so far ahead of her peers with an IQ of 185 that she goes to Harvard at the age of 14 and graduates Harvard at the age of 18 but the problem is she missed four years and four grades of school so she never had a chance to develop alongside her peers and be sorted, so to speak, and ready for the World by the age of 18. Carrie has no common sense because she is obviously a genius but she is a sweetheart at heart and learns throughout the movie that she needs to fit in with many who do not have an IQ that high. It's very troublesome for her but it's very entertaining to us.
As I said earlier had it not been for the poor picture quality and definitely the poor sound quality of the DVD-R which I was unaware of when I purchased this because it was not in the listing, I would probably enjoy the movie a little bit more if at all possible and if it were a standard DVD instead, the picture and sound would be up to par. It's still a movie that I do recommend for any audience.
