The Ultimate Compromise

It trumps everything on the market in the value-for-money stakes, offering a viable alternative to expensive, graphical-plot calculators, at an unbelievably low price.

What Casio did was incredible: they addressed the needs of those wanting a much more expensive, high-end, graphical-plot calculator, like the fx-cg50, but couldn't afford one. What you get here is all the features you'd look for in a more expensive calculator allowed for GCE use, but in a much slimmer body, less than half the price, and with a few extra facilities high-end models don't offer. As an example, it can solve polynomial inequalities, giving you the answer as it should be written down (even the fx-cg50 can't do this).

Apart form it's ability to solve single-variable equations, as presented with no rearrangement, it also has matrix, vector, statistical distribution facilities, dual tables, spreadsheets, and an equation-solving mode for simultaneous equations with up to 4 unknowns, and polynomial equations up to powers of 4. You also get a ratio solver; HCF, LCM and prime factorisation. It's dual powered, and even outputs data for graphical plotting via an app on your smartphone. Good quality? Only time will tell, but Casio have over 45 years of experience, and offer a 3-year warranty, so it should prove reliable, even if the keyboard does feels a bit trashy.

Great Calculator, Keys a bit iffy, double check that the intended digits are up on the screen!

The calculator is very powerful and has more functions than most engineers etc will need. It is well priced and offers good value. However wher it falls down in my view is that if you are used to inputting data fairly swiftly, the keys very frequently dot not register and so errant results occur. I have found I have had to slow down considerably, press the keys very firmly and look at the screen on every push to confirm that the value has been registered correctly. This never seemed to be an issue going back say as much as 20 years. the buttons only had to be brushed upoin and the correct value was there on the screen in front of you. HAS QUALITY CONTROL AND/OR MASS MANUFACTURING METHODS TAKEN A BACKWARD STEP?

If you´re not a real genius, I doubt that you´ll use all those functions. A full calculator!

One of the most complete calculators nowadays. It´s light and powerful. It has tons of functions. The screen is large enough to show complete formulas, real nice. The screen has a very good contrast ratio and it´s easy to see. The menu has too many functions that you have to study it first. The manual is very unpleasant to read, a small piece of paper with small letters. The QR Code function is very interesting, it can transform your calculations into complete graphical representations so you can paste on a word processor and save time. The metal buttons give it an elegant visual to the calculator. The keys are soft and steady and the division of colors make it nice to get used to it. The front cover is white and can fit right in the back when you´re using it. Since it´s made of thin plastic, I would recommend you to buy a proper case to keep it safer.

Casio FX-991EX Review

First of all if you have anyone who is and/or just started secondary school I would seriously encourage anyone to purchase this calculator.
Although it say's GCSE or A Level for a scientific calculator this is standard and recognized for all secondary school maths and further education.
You won't need to purchase the more expensive graphics calculator as this one has so many features it's a lot more cheaper and offers best value for money amongst all the other models and other makes.
WORD OF WARNING...
Beware of counterfeit models which look exactly the same as the original in fact you cannot tell the difference part from the following.

1. If you place your hand over the solar panel window you should see in icon which looks like a sun disappear and/or the display dim slightly.

2. This calculator is solar powered but has a battery backup as well, if you open the battery compartment there should be a battery inside.

3. There's a Casio App you can install on your Apple or Android phone, this calculator has a unique feature that after any computation it can generate a QR code and you scan this with your phone using the App. This will then open a webpage on your device and show the math equation.
This feature isn't a necessary requirement for day to day use but it will confirm if you have a genuine product or not.

All-in-All this is a brilliant product not just for students but for anyone just to have on their desk, workshop and/or at home.
Hope this Helps
:-)

Wonderful calculator type in fractions and formulae as in text books

Wonderful calculator easy to use and type in fractions and formulae as found in text books. Very useful for my kids going to secondary school and beyond.
Be aware though there are many imitations on ebay that dont have same functions but image looks the same. Usually missing casio logo and sold as unbranded by some ebayers. But may arrive as citiiizen branded a cheap copy.Read full review...

Classy Casio

As a maths teacher/ tutor i need a reliable up-to-date calculator. This model is only one or two recommended for next years A-Level (change of specification) - Appears well made, looks expensive, with a much improved display. Loads of functions (some new). Ebay purchase (Far east) made it quite low priced compared with UK supplied - but identical calculator, in sealed box and UK instructions. Great.Read full review...

Good calculator from Casio

Nice calculator, looks good and is lightning fast, it can do up tp 4x4 matrix and root solve a 4 degree polynomial. It can do numerical integration/differential equations and it has a numerical solver and much more.

All Casio calculators have the annoying feature of switching off(battery save) without saving your work, this one is no exception.

Casio Fx991ex

As a 50yr old student returning to study of an HNC in engineering this calculator is amazing, algebra can be created in a visual form. The curser keys allow adjustment of the equation for simple function. My only gripe…. A white plastic thingy shield… Why? But a great calculator!

Excellent Choice!

I was looking for a calculator for my son with advanced features and spotted the Degree/PHD bit. Well worth the extra money and my son is over the moon with it. The description was very detailed even although I didn't understand it so the fact that it mentioned Degree/PHD I knew it was a good choice. I would highly recommend this and its 4 times more powerful than its previous model.Read full review...
