Update Celestron Skyscout

Since 2015, it is no longer possible to use the Celestron Skyscout planetorium in automatic GPS mode because no GPS software update is available.

As for the manual mode, the year stops at the year 2015. However, it can be updated by giving as time and day the last day of the current year, EX 11:59 12/31 time zone -1

This will have the effect of moving December 31 to January 1 of the following year.

Here is the more detailed procedure:

Hello everyone,

It is possible to use the SkyScout in manual mode.

Here is the procedure for Skyscout French version:
1) Ignore "Acquisition of fixed satellites" because Celestron no longer updates.
2) press "down" to "Enter time and date manually"
3) Enter as time: 11:59pm GMT OFFSET -1 (important: -1)
4) Enter as date: 12 (month) 31 (day) Do not change anything to the year.

Note: The Skyscout uses universal time which is Greenwich time.
This -1 procedure allows you to advance one year each time
operation 3 and 4 is done. (Greemwich = time zone 0)

Go to "MENU "-->"Settings" -->"Time/Date Setting" -->

Repeat steps 3 and 4 until the year 2025,

Proceed one last time to update the current date and your time zone
as well as your local coordinates.
(Do not change the year display to negative notation, otherwise the whole
procedure will have to be redone)

As long as the batteries are in the device, it will keep the information in memory.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is the procedure for the English version of Skyscout:
To update from the year 2015, Proceed as follows:

Go to "SETTING" --> "Set Time/Date"
1) For time: enter 11:59 pm UTC Offset -1
2) For date: enter 12/31 (skip the year) and End

You will see that the year is advanced by one year by questioning
the GPS button which gives all the Positioning information.

Repeat steps 1 and 2 until the year 2025
Enter Longitude and Latitude of your location
As long as the batteries are in the device, the positioning and date are retained
You can change the batteries quickly without losing the setting

These can be repaired to become 99.9% functional again. I have repaired at least 6 to date.I have them for sale or can repair yours if you so desire.

These are still 99.9% functional, the only thing that does not work is the gps.So all you do is manually put in your time and location and it points to and identifies stars or it will show you where they are using pointer arrows. The only thing that does not work are the moon & planets because the gps is obsolete after 2015.Great for kids and adults to learn the night sky.If you get one and have problems I will be glad to answer all your questions.thank you.deansclassiclubs P.S. It also has audio built in to explain everything thru it’s earpiece or a add on speaker so everyone can here and learn! I have used mine for 17 years! P.S.Works world wide wherever your trips take you!Read full review

Exactly as advertised

Would definitely buy from again. Thanks for the great product at a great price. Kind of confusing on set up it would not grab GPS satellites but after inputting a reference position it grabbed the lock right away.Read full review
