A Second Chance

An inspirational story of a second chance based on a life story about heavyweight boxer James J. Braddock. Great casting; Crowe, Zellweger, Giamatti, McGill, and Bierko nailed their respective roles. Another Ron Howard triumph!Read full review...

Better than I expected! An Inspiring Story! See it!

Cinderella Man is one of the best films of 2005. It is based on a true story about a boxer named James J. Braddock (who was injured and down on his luck) during the Great Depression. Braddock was a heavyweight contender from New Jersey (nicknamed "the Bulldog of Bergen") who lost everything and then staged a great comeback that inspired a nation to believe in the miracles.

It was directed by Ron Howard and starred Russell Crowe. They previously worked together on the Oscar-winning movie, A BEAUTIFUL MIND.

This movie is a little slow at times but overall, it is a great movie with strong performances especially by Russell Crowe. It's one of those against-the-odds, underdog stories that tugs at your heart and brings a smile to your face. It's a good boxing film. I liked that it showed how people struggled to survive during the Great Depression. That was such an awful time in American history. I highly recommend this film. This movie is really worth watching.

If you like sports movies such as Any Given Sunday, Cool Runnings, Major League, Ice Princess, The Replacements, 61, Unnecessary Roughness, A League of Their Own, The Cutting Edge, Wildcats, Raging Bull, Rocky, etc. then, you will probably like this one.

May be best boxing movie ever.

The setting and scenery gives a person the one of best looks at the Depression Era from a handful of well-defined characters. The boxer's kids and wife have to live through the fade of a proud boxer's career as injuries have left him a shadow of his original boxing self. Gentleman JIm Braddock takes almost any job, even with little work available. A random fight turns up even though the boxing commission has pulled his license. Braddock discovers that from months of not fighting, his injuries have healed and fights his way back to his become a real Rocky and win or lose, he becomes a real people's champion. His manager almost steals the movie. Russell Crowe stars and Renee Zellweger becomes his "Adrian"
A little corny and squeezing every bit of sentimentality it can, based on real-life "hero" Jim Braddock...

The best movie you've never heard of

For some reason Cinderella Man flopped at the box office. I didn't even really know about it until I watched the DVD. For the most part I really like Russell Crowe, and this film definitely adds to his growing collection of great movies.

This true story is about a boxer named Jim Braddock who is in the prime of his career right as the Great Depression hits. His family quickly goes from living the high life to living in the slums as work becomes scarce and times get difficult trying to feed his family and keep them healthy and happy.

It's a very human story and it will not disappoint. Renee Zellweger plays Russell Crowe's wife and does a really nice job. This movie is directed by Ron Howard and lives up to his standards of a very fine film.

Great Film

Wonderful film about second chances. It takes place in the boxing world. I much preferred this to "Raging Bull", "Rocky", and "Great White Hope". Don't get me wrong...those three films are fantastic.Read full review...

Cinderella Man - A True Classic !

I can't help myself to give this DVD a five on five. This is one of the best movies I have ever watched in my whole life! The story is catchy, interesting, the story is sad, and the overall performance is awesome!

I got to give Russell Crowe a hundred on a hundred in his performance. He really lived the life of Jim Braddock, the boxer in the movie and in real life that Russell Crowe relived. You can sincerely see that the movie was an exact replica of his life.

The whole DVD is about the life of a boxer and his family in the olden days. IT goes from normal days, to the great depression and I won't ruin the movie for you. I suggest you buy this DVD for any price even if you hate movies with a passion!

Moving film about struggle and triumph

Based on actual people, this film was moving in its portrayal of family and overcoming hardship. Russell Crowe gave an exceptional performance as Jim Braddock, while Renee Zellweger gave a very tender performance as his wife. The. The atmosphere the tone and setting were very Vivid and accurate. The only setback was making Max Baer look like a villain which wasn't the case in real life. But overall it is an exceptionally moving film!Read full review...

Cinderella Man

We wife really likes the first half of the movie concerning the hardships that the country was dealing with and the morals that Braddock showed. Not so much the heavy boxing footage of the second half. I think the whole thing is great.
There is a big difference between this movie and a Rocky movie in that Jim Braddock didn't train at all before making his unexpected comeback. And the Rocky movies mostly concern the training that he did and the theme music.
It really oulines how he was really fighting for his life or "milk" as he states just to be able to pay the bills in the deepest of the depression. He was then able to pay back the finacial aid he got from the Gov't.

Cinderella Man (2005, DVD)

Loved the movie! Russell Crowe plays James Braddock in this portrayal of the real life boxer which takes place during the Great Depression. Renee Zellwegger plays Mrs. Braddock, and does a very solid job. The movie has some excellent boxing exchanges, but it's so much more than a boxing movie. It's a movie that reaccounts the trials and hardships that not only James Braddock had to overcome, but the Country as a whole. I enjoyed this movie from beginning to end. This is a movie that both men and women would enjoy.Read full review...
