An Accessible, Decent Porcupine Tree Release Which Grows On You
'Continuation' is correct in terms of this release, which is more of a strong rock album than an overly progressive rock one like some of their earlier releases. There may a little more keyboard/ electronica than earlier albums too, but not intrusively so, and Richard Barbieri's soundscapes fit Wilson's often bleak lyrics well. It's not as immediately pleasing to these ears as the previous (farewell) album The Incident, and there are fewer hooks than on that album, but it's consistent and tracks like Of the New Day and my favourites Dignity and the epic closer Chimera's Wreck are melodic and worth the album purchase alone. The artwork/packaging is a little basic but the cover shot of a chopped-back 'porcupine tree' is appropriate.Read full review
