Like other purchased Cobra brand products, the HH MR600 DSC Floating GPS Marine Radio works straight out of the Box. Its range of features is extensive, and not all these have yet been assessed, so please regard this report as preliminary.
Firstly, it ability to send and receive ordinary VHF traffic is good. The speaker is adequate, and the PTT button slightly stiff and awkward.
The DSC facility was not yet tried, and I sincerely hope will not be tried for at least 100 years. The ancillary DCS features are way beyond my requirements, but I am sure time spent learning all the features would be rewarded for those that go that way.
The GPS features again go beyond my requirement. It is interesting that it just may be possible to conduct some navigation steps using this device solely but there may be a little too much info on the small screen to make that easy.
I also like features such as it is waterproof and it floats, and whilst wet may still be used. The battery life is impressive.
I have not yet found ways of increasing the readability of the screen, and the scan function is tricky. The belt hook and the lanyard seem a bit flimsy, but nothing has broken so far!
