Continental Race 28 Supersonic Inner Tube 60mm Presta Valve 700 X 18 / 25c

Great lightweight tube, designed at the expense of increased cost and fiddly installation!

First time user of Continentals Supersonic Race tubes, I bought these only because I didn't have a great deal of room in my road bike tool kit for a standard size tube. Firstly I would say that these are really expensive compared to other standard brands, however they are half the weight and more importantly, half the volume of a standard tube. Claimed weight is 50g on the packet, actual weight is 52g (on my scales) which include a valve cap and stem lock screw. They will fit easily into most tool tubes (cover them to protect from metal tools piercing them), but here's the other down side...they're made from very thin rubber to save weight. They need to be handled very carefully and when installing, should be gently pushed well up into the underside of the tread and must be flat all round the wheel, careful not to twist them or trap them between the tyre bead and rim otherwise they will cut and split. Heavens knows what they would be like to change on the road in wet and windy conditions, probably very difficult. So far I've done 100 miles with these tubes, without problems, I have them pumped up to 90psi inside 700c Continental Gatorskins (23mm) and they hold pressure well, they need a pump before each ride (every few days). So, great tubes designed to be lightweight, at the expense of increased cost and fiddly installation........if you need to save weight / space, have the money and are patient and careful with your instal, the positives outweigh (literally) the negatives.Read full review
