Menace & Melody

"Death Party" released in 1983 between albums "Miami" (1982) and "The Las Vegas Story" (1984), "Death Party" captures a transitional moment for the band. It’s the only official release featuring Jim Duckworth and Dee Pop. This 5 song EP leans into punk blues and psychobilly, with a looser, more spontaneous feel than its predecessors.
“The House on Highland Ave.” stands out—a twisted narrative with elegant songwriting that shows Jeffrey Lee Pierce’s knack for blending menace and melody. “The Lie” and “The Light Of The World” offer bitter rockabilly and rootsy grooves, while the title track “Death Party” is a dirgy, hypnotic jam—classic Jeffrey Lee Pierce provocation. “Come Back Jim” closes the EP with a grinding, Cramps-like vibe that hints at the direction they'd take on "The Las Vegas Story". CD edition contains a live broadcast (7 songs) from a Radio Geneva session from March 1983. Great value and thus an excellent re-issue.
