The actions of who you were in the adventure had very little impact on the story

While the author managed the character of Matt Smith's Dr Who well and okay stories, he was in my opinion not suited to writing any kind of gamebook.
In the Coldest War, rather than making decisions about what your character is going to do, you are mainly making decisions about events totally outside your character's control, like what other characters are going to, whether a door is locked or not and usually the decisions are about pretty superficial things. For example if a door was locked it just meant that the Doctor had to stop and use his sonic screw driver on it.
Clearly the author was just using the choose your own adventure format just so that he could use all versions of his story but either lacked the ability or could not be bothered to get to these different paths through the actions made by the character you are playing.
The Coldest War will definitely be going to a charity bookshop!
