This film falls into the "watchable" category

Ryan Reynolds did a terrific job in this film playing a father who is going through a divorce. He is a solid enough lead, with enough comic talent to keep things ticking over.
The bulk of the film is him explaining to his daughter, (told in flashbacks) about love & how he met her mother, with her being the proverbial "happy ending". Except, she sees that her Dad really isn't happy. Abigail Breslin as the little girl 'Maya' is fabulous. Good casting, she's adorable without being perfect. Breslin also has great chemistry with Ryan Reynolds.
Isla Fisher shines as April the photocopy girl who bickers & banters with him in the office. Watching her character grow into a real woman, complete with self-esteem, was a nice touch.
Rachel Weisz as Summer who's into much older men, was completely charming.
Elizabeth Banks (Emily), Fisher & Weisz are all comfortable enough as Reynold's love interests.

Kevin Kline seems to be growing gracefully into more senior roles. He is an absolute delight as a drunken writer/professor who also happens to be quite full of himself.

Weaving through the 90s the soundtrack's peppered with songs that defined the era & having MASSIVE ATTACK on it, is always a massive boost.

The film is very entertaining, very romantic & if you want a completely enjoyable 2 hour escape, see this film.

A feel-good film

A pleasant romantic film. It’s lighthearted and harmless. It’s particular strength is a strong cast, with chemistry between the leading actors. I found it an enjoyable and relaxing film and will certainly watch it again Great for wet Sunday afternoons or at Christmas, post dinner, when I want to watch something light and fluffy!Read full review...

I Really like It

Finally, a romantic comedy that breaks the boundaries of clichéd romantic flicks and has enjoyable characters, a plot that is exciting, mysterious and funny and with plenty of twists to justify the genre that is often slated for it's predictability.

Ryan Reynolds (Just Friends) stars as Will Hayes, a middle aged man who is coming close to a divorce and when his daughter asks about her mother, Will takes a look back at the past years of his life.

Don't judge the film by the trailer because there is so much more on offer. Though the trailer for the film would give a sense of predictability and humour, the film was a delightful surprise with its great precise dialogue and dramatic scenarios, giving an account of true realism, of real life and its complications with married people, and couples.

The plot is consistent with excellent twists and turns as Will dives deep into his relationship past, and there is always that great creativity about who it could be.

Unlike a lot of other rom-coms, this 2008 film actually invites the audience into it, trying to make them guess and wonder who Will may end up with, and who the mother of Mai could be, which makes the film very unique and rather not the same old "Will he get it together with her?" There are a few clichés there, but still it maintains a more realistic drama approach to differ it which made me enjoy it.

There are a few great one liners and a few chucklesome moments, not as funny as other romantic comedies, but that isn't the point of this film. The point was trying to maintain a realistic approach of relationships, which it did spot on.

There is great acting from all involved which goes brilliantly with the direction and settings used by director Brooks.

Other issues which were intriguing were the political side, with the election of Bill Clinton, and the views of all the characters in regards to him, which give the film different layers and points to consider.

Definitely Maybe (DVD) Abigain Breslin, Elizabeth Banks

Starring: Abigain Breslin, Elizabeth Banks
Genre: Feature Film
Sub Genre: Comedy
Release date: 16 June 2008

It`s definitely never too late to go back... and maybe find a happy ending. Ryan Reynolds stars as Will Hayes, a 30-something Manhattan dad in the midst of a divorce when his 10 year-old daughter, Maya (Abigail Breslin), starts to question him about his life before marriage.

Will relates his romantic ups and downs to her, from girl next-door Emily (Elizabeth Banks), to the best friend and confidante, April (lsla Fisher) and free-spirited SUmmer (Rachel Weisz)... three romances... three broken hearts.

Written and directed by Adam Brooks.

Has a mix of good humor and grace.

Definitely, Maybe closes with a feel-good happy ending; unlike most modern romantic comedies, Definitely, Maybe has a feel-bad unhappy middle beforehand to make sure that climax feels earned.
