Expected a little better

Draper is a well-known brand for soldering irons and was at the cheaper end for a soldering station.
I found the build quality to be a little poor, very cheap plastic'y. The temperature control button has two 'notches' in its rotation. I don't believe they should be there, as there is no mention in the instructions, so probably a cheap potentiometer, although nicely damped.
The iron itself has a rubber sleeve for grip, again this looks like someone has cut it out of rubber by hand, as it is not cut in a circle but uneven straight edges.
I have not used it much yet, but every time I have, I have needed to tighten the tip up more than once per use. Not sure why it keeps coming lose as I make sure it’s fully tight each time. I would have thought that it would get tighter AS it heats!
There are no temperature settings on the dial, so really I have no idea what the settings should be and cannot even be sure it is a temperature control, it may just control the power to the iron.
It's not bad for the price, it works ok as a soldering iron, has stand and sponge. The cable is quite thick and stiff, which I find makes it difficult to use. This seems common with cheap things now days.
My old iron has a thick but very floppy cable making it easy to handle, I just cannot get the tips for it now.
Overall, for the price it’s a good enough soldering station, I just expected better quality from a well-known brand.

REASONABLE SOLDERING IRON

I purchased this soldering iron as a replacement for another make on the positive side .....
a) adjustable heat
b) highest heat settings melt solder very quickly to get good join
c) the fine tip it came with enabled me to do some very precise electrical soldering
d) on off switch that lights up when in use - good visual indicat0or that iron is on or off.

negative points

a) very plasticy feel to base - bit cheap
b) sponge holder is not very effective - easy to catch soldering iron on the rim and melt the plastic / get plastic on the iron
c) coil holder for iron is very flimsy although it does do its job.
d) rather short mains cable

On balance it is better than my other iron so I am pleased but this product could easily be improved.

Thermostatic Solder Iron

Professional features for home use, and great value price. Cheaper basic solder irons left powered on, just over-heat & burn out. This has a good safety spring stand, to protect from accidental burns. Also the base is firm on 4 x non-slip feet. I would highly recommend it.Read full review...

Draper soldering iron station.

This is a good solid product with variable heat control which works well.
Being picky , I wish there was a lamp to say when it reaches temperature , and a choice of bits even just a extra flat one to go with the pointed one supplied would be great.Read full review...

Set with care

As far as I can tell this is not a temperature controlled iron but a power controlled one. This is fine as long as you are doing the same sort of work with it e.g. soldering small components. Once you tackle larger heat sinks you'll need to adjust the power setting to maintain temperature. Within this limitation it seems reliable and excellent value for money.Read full review...

Temperature Controlled Soldering Station

Most impressed with the design and excellent functionality. Nice to see that a sponge was included.
I have to check each batch of solder to assess the melting point. At the moment I need it set on maximum but just turning it down gradually to check the thermostat. Highly recommendedRead full review...

Iron works. Controls work. We have lift off .

A good no nonsense soldering iron . I had more trouble controlling the tube of solder wriggling around .I only have three pairs of hands to do that . This iron will get the job done if the twisty electric flex will unwind itself .. Twisty flex and twisty solder . This is reality . Get over it . Not too bad though .Read full review...

it work so efficiently

Over my 60 years of life I've had and used many soldering irons but this is my first temperature controlled iron and it work so efficiently. I know I can turn it on and await for it heat but then just like a clothes iron it switches off for a while to maintain the set temperature.
I've had it few months now and as a radio controlled enthusiast and a semi pro musician I'm always repairing or making things with my iron so I need reliability. And this ticks all my boxes

Quality Product at an affordable price

A well built soldering iron, that is easy to use, has variable controls and feels secure in the hand when soldering.
