A wonderful journey through a place called Andalucia.

I'd tried previously to buy the book about 6 months ago after hearing about it on a cooking programme but couldn't get hold of a copy anywhere, by chance overheard someone mention it again, looked and found a copy for sale and then couldn't wait for it to arrive. Sat down that evening with a cup of coffee and book in hand and 85 pages later.. and I'm not a fast reader. I couldn't wait for the following day to arrive so I could pick up where I'd left off. Took me 3 days to read, had me captured in the story from the first to last page, just wish i'd had the courage to do the same thing 30 years ago. The end of the book does seem to come to a sudden stop, and i was left wondering what was going to happen next, did wonder if the author had done this on purpose so 20 years later could do a follow up, I do hope so.... Reading the same book twice is not something I do but will certainly be keeping this one on hand for a holiday read in the future.Read full review...

Good read and a recommendation for living in Spain.

The name of the book I picked up while listening to the author's back story. Original drummer in Genesis etc. Thought the book might be a good read.
Cannot put it down and have got well into the book. Well written and the story of living in Spain while overcoming all the accompanying problems and shortages including no electrical water or gas service is a delight.Read full review...

Life in the Alpujarras

A brilliant account of life in proper rural southern Spain. The author captures the ups and downs in moving and living and farming in Andalucia away from the costas.

First Class Moving-Abroad Debut Autobiography

I first read this book when it was first published and it's an entertaining and engaging read. One of my recommended reads. I purchased the book again recently because it was missing from my bookshelf (and I retain a small trove of favourite books which I will lend out, then forget who had it).

As you might imagine, I found the original copy before even the new one arrived! However, it is just as worth having two copies, knowing me!

Wonderful book - highly recommended

Wonderful story of a young couple setting up a new life in Andalucia. A timeless classic, which I've read twice in the past and now wish to read again only to find my original book has gone astray,

This lighthearted book is compulsive reading, easy to visualise the story as it unfolds. Real life in the raw.....really enjoyable.

Very applicable.

Just a great book and an excellent lead up to the following titles in the series - well it certainly made me want to find out more about the life and times of Chris Stewart.

I love Spain and I love this book.

I love Spain and I love this book. When reading it I am transported there and I can feel the warm air and breeze and the hot sun, I can taste those juicy, tangy citrus fruits and salty olives and I can smell the Mediterranean herbs, the rosemary, sage, lavender and thyme. I also can see the vivid coloured flowers contrasting with the bleached and dried wood of the house, barns, fences and old farm equipment. I can feel the cool water of the trickling stream near by. I love it.Read full review...
