Probably his best CD, some real crackers here! Easy 5 stars!

Probably his best CD of all. A song for everyone and most are crackers rather than just bashed out to fill the CD up. just great!

Dwight Yoakam - This Time (CD 1993)

Picture a traditional clock face, and a cowboy standing head bowed arms pointing towards six o'clock. Yes, on the inset of 'This Time' Yoakam looks the part, turn over and a scantily clad woman holding a spanner is preparing to fix an overflowing sink ... surreal or not? But does the boy Dwight sound alright?
At the time 'A thousand miles...', 'Fast as you' and 'Ain't that lonely yet' received so much airplay the years that have passed are insufficient to dim what storming hits these turned out to be. Even 'A pocket of a clown' has a certain hip resonance.

As for the rest, the listener is left with a melanonic, wistful recollection ... different ... which does take a while to grow on you. However, 'King of fools' has a wonderful fiddle lilt. For an diehard fan a 'Home for sale' that is 'Two doors down' from Yoakam may sound like utopia ... before you move in taken a listen to the respective tracks.

The penultimate track 'Wild ride' sums up the Yoakam we know and love, while the final track 'Lonesome roads' takes us down lesser known avenues. Overall 'This Time' is all Dwight and will have you returning to this, time after time after time.

Classic Dwight Yoakam.

Bought this 1 mid '90s in Boston as a cassette then. Loved it then, then lent to a friend late '90s, never got it back. This sounds even better not as good as 'Gone'.
