Working well with our setup

We had previously purchased an Insinkerator garbage dispose-all to use as an apple grinder since it is essentially what is known as a "hammer mill". The problem we had with it was that big apples had to be cut up to feed into it and it would overheat. So we decided to get this mill to see if it could serve as a replacement for it. It does a pretty good job chopping up the apples and the teeth do a reasonably good job of pulling the apples into them. It does take a little bit of strength to crank it and it really helps to have a 2nd person to hold this grinder in place if you're going to use it over a bucket or you need to build something it can sit on which you can clamp it down onto because it will "walk" on you when you're cranking the handle to grind apples. I think the pomace which comes out of it could probably have been pressed directly and would have given a fairly good yiekd but since we did have the dispose-all already we fed the output of this grinder into it. The result was no more need to cut up apples, no over heating of the dispose-all and a nice pomace which yielded 6 gallons of juice from 12 gallons of pressed pomace. So this is so far turning out as a good addition to our setup and we think that for the moderate amount of pressing we do (alternate years, on the order of 5-6 six gallon buckets of pomace yield total) it should last and the price point on it was quite reasonable.Read full review

If you make cider you MUST have a fruit crusher

This thing is awesome. I just started making cider using an EJWOX 5 gallon cider press. I tried with sliced apples and (5) 5-gallon buckets of apples and made 1.75 gallons of cider. I bought this fruit crusher and ran (3) 5-gallon buckets of apples thru it....then into the press and I got 2.0 gallons of cider. Very impressive. The construction seems adequate and it was easy to crank. I see no need to use a drill to power it. Excellent itemRead full review

Good value and good product for a hobbyist

It does what it’s designed to do at a low price. I’m sure there are bigger, better, stronger, easier, sturdier, and on and on and on. But for our little orchard with apples, pomegranates, grapes, and plums, this will do just fine. Fruit that would otherwise be wasted will now be crushed and juiced and fermented and enjoyed.Read full review

I am using this to grind compost from ki...

I am using this to grind compost from kitchen scraps. It works but it gets stuck sometimes when bits get wrapped around the gears and so requires clearing while I am trying to grind stuff.
