I paid little more for the same pill cutter that I have had for about 8 years. Recently my guard, a piece of plastic, broke on mine, so I started looking for a replacement and hopefully to find the same brand, Shield. This one looks basically the same, but does not seem to be as sharp. The case does not shut as tight, with the snap shut effect. I am getting the pills cut, and trying different techniques of slamming down the top for the cutter, so as to not get the pills crushed, broken as it has done on me a few times. Maybe it just needs to be more worn in, but don't remember having that problem years ago. There is always some type of change in a product over the years, unfortunately. I would still recommend it over others, that are cheaper and flimsy, though.Read full review

Safe clean pill cutter

In the last two months I have purchased and/or received 4 pill cutters, this one is the best. I love the silicone mat under the cutting area because it prevents pill slippage during cutting and the safety shield. This is much more effective, and easier to deal with, than less expensive pill cutters. It's well worth the extra $2-3.

Some reviews complain about this and other pill cutters crushing pills into powser, rather than cutting them. The biggist factor in that is not the pill cutter, but the ingredients they put in the pill, like binders, coloring agents, preservatives, fillers, and the medication itself. Because of that, some pills are going to crumble like chalk no matter how you try to cut them.

I have to cut some pills for our cat that are pretty crumbly. The previous cutter I used mostly crushed them, and this one doesn't crush them as much, so that's a win in my book.Read full review

Best cutter ever - so far

pros:
Silicon tray taper holds all sizes firmly with very slight forward pressure from finger, perfectly centered at apex.
Thin blade cuts accurately and straight, with negligible powder waste: unlike it's predecessors.
Even cuts accurate/straight through factory tablet scored lines.
Slightly tip forward when cutting will deposit halves in holding tray, all ready for next pill.
Cut is completely: tablets with "skin" are cut through, no hangers-on.
Hinge leverage also makes cutting effortless.. about 1/4 pressure of the old blue models sold for years at drug stores.

Like the pill cutter.....

What I like about this pill cutter it has the little tray to catch the cut pills. If you have an animal you don't have to worry about the dog or cat finding the medications that can hurt them.
