Yes it reduces scale.
This product removes the white scale. We have seen a reduction of scale in our house for the last 3 weeks and they say it takes 3 months. We are very happy to know that our hot water heater, dishwasher, refrigerator ice maker, washer, dryer, toilet bowls, sinks, house pipe and valves will last longer. I have a serious hard water issue even with house filters, but it is too early to be definitive. I can say the installation was very simple and took about an hour for everything. I had one of these in rural Missouri. Everybody had the hard water ring in toilet. This device eliminated it in my hobby farm cabin.
It is pricey, but does a good job.
We have now moved to FL and had the hard water ring again.
