Comprehensive guide to ancient Egyptian scripts
A great book, that explains the intricacies of hieroglyphics (and their later development into hieratic and demotic scripts) and reveals the beauty of this writing system with excellent illustrations. Highly recommended. The only shortcoming is, alas, shared by so many works on ancient and foreign scripts, and that is a certain vagueness where pronunciation is concerned. Of course, precise knowledge of ancient pronunciation is not retrievable, but approximations should use standard phonetic terminology. Read full review...

some very good insights into the topic but has a lot of extra material which is not relevant to Egyptian study.
I am overall happy as it was not expensive.
