First class Pump

I have never used a solar pump before and I am only an amateur solderer with practically no experience of de-soldering. The little disordering I have done has been with de-soldering braid, which has worked to a degree but which I have found fiddly. I certainly didn't want to work on my beloved radio with braid when replacing damaged components. I looked at lots of reviews and finally decided to go for this excellent silicone tip pump. It is Fantastic. The solder is completely sucked away from the PCB hole making the component easy to remove. I would never go back to using braid now and thoroughly recommend this stylish and very well made pump that works like a dream. Read full review...

It's a step up.

I've been using the all plastic solder pumps for years, never liked them much either. I then discovered this, from the videos and reviews it seems like an improvement from the plastic ones.

Quality-wise it is a well built piece of kit. Functionally, I find there's a few problems with it. Does it suck? Yes it sucks up the solder. But the problem I find is when sucking up large bits of solder, the solder cools down too quick inside the nozzle and becomes stuck. Even the built-in self cleaning system cannot push it out. Sometimes I have to really force the pump down to push out solder, sometimes this is impossible and I have to use a drill bit to loosen up the solder inside the nozzle then push out and remaining solder. This becomes quite annoying.

It is good for small solder points, anything larger I'd recommend a proper desoldering station, which I have just ordered. I currently have a pcb board with over 250 points to desolder and this little thing just won't do.

The best desoldering pump I have used so far

This desoldering pump is small enough to fit in most places (i.e. beneath the microscope, led light with magnifying glass etc.) yet big enough for a fairly large palm to operate precisely and with ease. The build quality is of a very high level and packaging it comes with is good, with a friendly quick start/user manual/tips and tricks brochure. You get one extra tube of silicone (approx. 5cm) for the nozzle tip, so that You can change it when it gets worn out (which will take quite some use) or simply use a longer and more bendy suction tube.
The suction power is surely more than I expected from such a small cylinder, but I still tend to use a bigger, more heavy duty suction pump for larger mass joints (i.e. double layer through hole, point to point, hard wired and similar networks) and then just completely clean out the rest with the SS-02. The only reason is that if You use the silicone tip perfectly, it will create a very tight vacuum and my method is not to take too much of solder at one go to avoid possible clogging of the pump nozzle or chamber.
Unscrewing the tip for cleaning and maintenance is pretty straight forward. It comes with a good quality gasket which is additionally oiled just a tad, to ensure a good vacuum.
Despite being very small, suction is ensured with a well chosen, good quality spring, which is probably a bit stronger than it would usually be for a chamber of this size. Since there is not much space left for any recoil compensating mechanisms (i.e. counter-spring, back dampers etc.), the recoil itself during desoldering action is again well balanced and never posed any problems whatsoever for me. Thumbs up for that!
To summarize, this is so far the best solder suction pump of this size (and many other bigger ones) I've used. It has literally halved my use of desoldering wick as a final touch-up because it is extremely efficient. I would definitely recommend it to anyone, experts and hobbyists alike!

Note: majority of my work is done with 63/37 eutectic solder which flows just a tad easier than standard 60/40 solder. Nevertheless, when using this suction pump on de-soldering lead-free boards, I didn't notice any particular difference or experience any difficulties.

Best solder sucking pump I ever used

Well it's made in japan not china so ofc it's high quality !
Definitely the best solder sucking pump I ever used, easy one hand operation, because it's short so u can reach the end after you activate it and pump again.
Many soldering experts recommend this one and after I using it myself I can see why, you just can't go wrong with this one, just buy some replacement silicone for the tip and you will be happy for years, no doubt about it !

Best quality, easy operation

Very good product, excellent quality as expected. Very powerful, makes desoldering super easy even for more complex jobs. Tip does not melt, and is very easy to work with. One hand operation is very convenient. Only downside is the mechanism sometimes gets stuck with solder, which prevents it from working correctly. Not a big deal really, and it makes a very pleasant sound. 100% recommend.Read full review...

Outstanding solder sucker

I have used lots of different solder suckers both professionally and at home. This beats every other solder sucker by a mile. The flexible nozzle and extra suck means that every last spec of solder is removed. No need for braid as the components literally drop out after this has done its magic. Amazing tool and worth every penny.Read full review...

A useful tool made with high quality materials.

This product, since it comes from Japan, must be of great quality.
This is what happens with the majority of products coming from Japan.
From little things like this, to cars and more.
I believe, as an electronic engineer, that it will serve satisfactorily for many years.Read full review...

Excellent Solder Sucker

I worked in the electronics industry for a long time and have used many different types of manual solder sucker and I can honestly say this is the best one I have ever used. I've just finished using it to de-solder a 40pin header from a thru-hole board and most holes cleared on first attempt.Read full review...

Jap solder sucker

This is just fantastic, I've had a good few solder suckers in the past and they all work as poorly as expected, you can get a piece silicone tube to put on the end of one of those bad ones which makes them better but this is "the dogs balls" this! Marvelous.Read full review...

Very powerful, but you'll be cleaning it all the time

Incredible suction (despite being quite small) but it gets blocked a bit too easily. I find trimming the silicone tube a little shorter helps with that. Made short work of removing key switches from a mechanical keyboard's PCB with no damage to either parts.Read full review...
