Enjoyable film.

This box set was the 3rd "FF - Rise of the Silver Surfer" DVD which I purchased. The first two DVD's "jammed" at exactly the same place in the film - when the Surfer has been captured and is about to be injected by a "Govt. Doctor" - who is called away - "Sue Strong - as the Invisible Woman" goes into his cell to talk to him, the SS says " I know you are there" and the disc jams - both discs did and refuse to go to the next scene - "scene 21." Very frustrating, must be a glitch on the manufacture of these discs.

However -this boxed set played straight through with no problems, so I would recommend this boxed set over any other "FF - Rise of the Silver Surfer" DVD.

Enjoyable film too - once I got to watch the entire film!

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Coming across like the scatty younger sibling to the more serious, more mature ‘ X-Men’ films, 2005’s ‘Fantastic Four’ substituted corny comic banter and cheesy effects for solemnity, subtext and drama, and proved a sizeable hit with the prepubescent crowd. This numeral-less sequel aims for a similar demographic with a family-friendly, mankind-under-threat, globe-trotting plot that takes in our fair city (where the Eye’s saved from tumbling into the Thames) and an appearance by the Fantasticar that will, clearly, shift a few more toys.

Gruffudd still looks faintly embarrassed at having to play the rubber-limbed, big-brained Mr Fantastic whose wedding to Invisible Woman Sue Storm (Alba) is interrupted by the all-CGI Silver Surfer, a cosmic visitor who rides the stars on his liquid metal board (man), and whose appearance presages various destructive anomalies around the world. But the Surfer’s arrival only heralds that of the planet-devouring Galactus, a god-like entity and one of the most feared villains in the Marvel Universe portrayed here by a, er, cloud.

McMahon’s Dr Doom, meanwhile, returns to annoy the comic book faithful and there’s the ubiquitous, cringe-worthy cameo from Stan Lee, this time playing himself. Marginally more entertaining than before, and shorter too, although Story’s direction remains as drab and anonymous as ever. Kids will no doubt love it. For dads, there’s always Alba.

Fantasic

A really good film, I would say personally it is better than the first one. I watched the first one and it sparked an interest, so I bought Silver Surfer and was very happy with what I saw.
The actors have now settled into their role as the Fantastic Four and it shows, the just an ordinary family with extraordinary powers. The Silver Surfer looks amazing, as does the Fantastic Fours power, there is also a return of Dr Doom, has he turned good, or is there a twist in the plot?
I think this film will be enjoyed by adults and children, a good family film, definalty worth buying

Rise Of The Silver Surfer review - potential spoilers

The Good:
-The Thing and the Human Torch are a superb double act.
-The Silver Surfer looks amazing and Laurence Fishburne is spot on as the Surfer's voice.
-There are some great action sequences, for example the Torch/Surfer chase and the London Eye rescue.

The Bad:
-Doctor Doom. Julian McMahon does an okay job at playing a generic sleezy bad guy but this just isn't the scary, tragic, arrogant, super science and gypsy magic wielding, raving despot genius that we all love to hate. Also, what's up with his eyebrows?

-It's admirable that they've gone out of their way to play up the soap opera angle but it's at the expense of everything else. Where's the mind boggling machines, crazy super science, trips to the Negative zone and teleporting dogs? Soap opera's good but where's the imagination that made FF such a great comic?

-Galactus is a cloud! Now if they thought a big purple giant wouldn't work on screen, that's fine. However once again, where's the imagination? Is a cloud really the best they could come up with?

I'm aware that this review is very much from the perspective of a comics fan. As a film in it's own right it's fairly enjoyable and it's one I have watched more than once. However when you're carrying the weight of "The World's Greatest Comic Magazine" a comparison is unavoidable. This film is okay but the makers had a duty to the original source material to use a lot more imagination and creativity than they did.

Fantastic Four:The Rise Of The Silver Surfer - 2 Disc

An entertaining sequel that does not take itself too seriously, gives a nice introduction to the cult hero the Silver Surfer. Hopefully paving the way for a ‘spin off’ film

Special effects were good, especially the Silver Surfer scenes

Plot summary:

While Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd) and Sue Storm (Jessica Alba) prepare for their wedding.

An alien being (Silver Surfer) prepares the Earth, so his master (Galactus) can feed on the life energy of the planet.

Eventually it is realized that the Earth is under attack, the government force the Fantastic Four to work with their arch enemy Doctor Doom (Julian McMahon) to find a solution.

Nice extras on the DVDs, for extra value check out the 2 film boxset

Fantastic Four - The Rise of the Silver Surfer

Fantastic 4 Rise of the Silver Surfer is a good film. Its not a special effects masterpiece, or a film with a lot of depth, however it does make for easy light-hearted viewing and therefore I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a fun 'superhero' movie.Read full review...
