The best Far Cry game since Far Cry 3

(Minor spoilers are ahead)

Far Cry 5 isn’t Far Cry 3. Nor is it Far Cry 4. It’s better.

Stranded in the middle of Hope County, Montana, the player, a Sheriff’s Deputy in the region, must find a way to get in contact with the outside world and find a way out.

But this isn’t your average county in Montana. Project at Eden’s Gate and it’s followers (known as Peggies by the locals) have gained complete control of the entire county and are terrorizing it’s citizens. The religious cult is lead by the Seed family (brothers Joseph, John, and Jacob, and their adopted sister, Faith). You must work with the locals to take out each family member one by one until you reach The Father, the leader of the cult, Joseph Seed.

Ubisoft does an excellent job of creating an idea of what happens when a religious cult, or any cult for that matter, goes unchecked for an extended period of time.

To the religious, concerned about the game:

I consider myself to be a religious person and still had an amazing time. The game references HEAVILY to the Book of Revelations, which should be expected considering the Project at Eden’s Gate is a doomsday cult. Contrary to what some sources would have you believe, you’re not fighting religion. You’re not running around burning down churches and smashing crosses. In fact, one of your allies is a priest at a local parish. However there are some religious symbolism one may find disturbing and put them on edge. But that’s part of the experience in my opinion.

The following is about the ending of the game. I will do my best not to spoil any aspect, but be mindful as you read the next part of the review.

Many people, and by that I mean nearly everyone, who have completed the game have complained about the ending. This reviewer doesn’t hate the ending, they love it. There are several ways the game may end, but only one REAL ending. Every single ending is intense and suspenseful leading you to wonder “What will happen next?”

What I dislike about the game

The location of Montana is a perfect selection by Ubisoft. It’s absolutely gorgeous. However with beauty in video games comes performance issues, and this game has many. Screen tearing and frame drops are common and extremely obnoxious. However, when you’re in the middle of combat, you kinda forget about them.

The combat in the game is left to be desired. It feels... too easy. It feels like every gun you pick up will do nearly the same amount of damage which may be fine to some players, but for me, I don’t want my pistol doing the same damage as my .50 Cal sniper rifle.

The endgame of Far Cry 5 seems almost non existent. Sure you can get a few hours extra with the DLC, but not everyone has $30 they can spend on the season pass (which is another thing. $30? Come on, Ubisoft!). If you enjoy achievement hunting or are a completionist, similar to me, you’ll enjoy the endgame. However, some may find it left to be desired.

In conclusion, Far Cry 5 won’t be a game you can sit down and bang out in one day. It’s an emotional roller coaster of a game that takes you all around Hope County. It’s an adventure that will take maybe a good week or so to complete. Take your time, enjoy Montana, and fight the good fight against the Peggies!

(Also the soundtrack of the game is absolutely AMAZING. Look up the “We Will Rise Again” soundtrack and you will be entranced!)

Far Cry 5 - Xbox One

This was Best Buy, who had THE BEST deal on this specific game. I thank you greatly for that. To second this, the shipping was ONE DAY. 20$ no additional cost for the shipping. It took me by absolute surprise. Says it was from Kentucky all the way here to Arizona in just a day. Thanks again, would absolutely be willing to do service with such again!Read full review

Challenging game

Good game. Very challenging.
This is not a game that can be blown through by advanced gamers. It’s going to take you awhile.

CONS. I’m concerned about the references to the Book of Revelations that the “cultists” use. I know that this game is not for kids but I know that some will play it any way.

However the Cultists twisted beliefs and their inhumanity to man is a good reason for their elimantion.

A huge improvement from Far Cry 4 to 5

Far Cry 3 is one of my favorite shooters and the 4 was a big disappointment to me because it felt too similar to 3 but for 5 it stays being far cry without too much change. Game play is much more better!Read full review

Best shooter game of 2018!

I love Farcry 5! It has tons of stuff to do like blowing up cultists with a rpg, hunting, fishing, etc... The map creator is fun too even though I am not so great at it. There are a few glitches in the game but not major. I really hope Ubisoft focus on making games like this because this has been really the best first person shooter since Halo 5.Read full review
