BRITISH COMEDY CLASSIC

I’m pleased to own this series now on DVD format. I have watched the series countless times over the years and it is still very funny. I hope to watch it many more times now.

Excellent

On reflection it would have made snse to buy series 1 and 2 together. At the time I was not sure. After watching series 1, I am now sure, and have bought the second series as well.

Favourite Show

This comedy series was one of my favourite shows in the mid seventies and I've not been disappointed.

A situation comedy that never gets old.

I used to watch this with my parents when I was younger and still watch it to this day. It still has great comedy value. Funny comedic moments "just don't mention the war"

Buy mine you'll love it.Read full review...

Fawlty Towers - Series 1 - Complete (DVD 2001)

Classic comedy - as funny as ever after all this time. Genius script, brilliantly acted.
I bought it to update my videos - I watch it regularly - I love it.

Basils the best....

First broadcast in 1975, 'Fawlty Towers' has remained a timeless example of comic writing, acting, and characterisation at its very best. This DVD features all six memorable episodes from the first series.

A Touch Of Class: An confidence trickster comes to stay at the hotel, just after Basil has taken an ad in a posh magazine to attract a better class of clientele...

The Builders: The Fawltys take a holiday and leave Polly and Manuel to run (or should that be ruin?) the place just as O'Reilly's builders come to redo the lobby.

The Wedding Party: Basil wants `none of that' going on in his rooms and suspects some guests and Polly of carrying on.

The Hotel Inspectors: Some inspectors are in town and Basil's paranoia causes him to alternately fawn over and offend his guests.

Gourmet Night: To bring the right type of crowd into the hotel, Basil establishes a Gourmet Night but when the Rotarians arrive there are a few problems with the chef refusing to stop sampling too much wine from the cellar and the car refusing to go any further.

The Germans: Sybil goes into the hospital for toe surgery, leaving Basil to cope with a fire drill single-handed. After a couple of blows on the head, Basil forgets not to mention the war and tells some German guests where Germany went wrong in WWII....

Timeless humour!!

I have for some time owned the Fawlty Towers series on VHS tape, but the sound and picture quality was poor. I am now the delighted owner of the dvd of Series one, which includes (on a separate dvd) interviews with John Cleese and Andrew Sachs as they are today, or recently. It would have been nice also to see Connie Booth and Prunella Scales, and to hear their own perspectives on this classic comedy series.

I work in Kenya and my Kenyan employees love watching Fawlty Towers.... the situation as it is, being set in a hotel, rings true all over the world, not least in third world countries where hotels "CAN" be almost as appalling as Fawlty Towers. I myself worked during 2006-7 at a 14th Century Cotswolds hotel which was occasionally called "Just like Fawlty Towers" by its less than satisfied guests!! Having worked in a Hotel, and seen just what crazy situations can and do arise, Fawlty Towers is all the more hilarious, as Basil and others regularly DO the taboo things we were never over-tempted to do!!

Excellent value for money as home-based entertainment. I sadly missed the chance of buying Series two because, having bid for 4 days on it, some idiot came along in the final 30 seconds and outbid me!! I was furious!! This last second bidding should NOT be allowed, its just not fair!! They dont give you time to respond with a higher bid. Cant Ebay add some minutes for us until all bidding is completed? Well, I couldnt bid for another dvd because I am going back to Kenya, sadly without series two!!
