Festool Systainer of D8/d12 Router Bit Insert 576835

WARNING: does NOT accommodate 1/4" router bits

Purchased this to house my collection of router bits as I liked the idea of keeping all the bits in one case that could be stacked with my other systainers. I'm a big fan of Festool systainers as they are extremely good quality and the way they lock together makes it very easy to access things when needed and store things safely when not.

This systainer is no exception to the overall quality of the brand in terms of build quality. What I was not expecting was that the insert does not accommodate 1/4" bits - the 2 different hole sizes are for 1/2" and the far less popular 8mm bits (I own four 8mm bits so can verify they fit). Obviously 1/4" bits will fit but they are very loose in the holes and would almost certainly drop out if the case was held on its side.

This is a big disappointment as it is not stated in the description and surely will limit the usefulness of the case for the average UK user - I have pretty much filled all the 1/2" holes and still have half the capacity remaining but unable to use it for all my 1/4" bits.

Hope this review helps anyone avoid buying something that will not function in the way they might have reasonably expected due to the lack of information provided about the product.Read full review
