An excellent album

Firepower is the heaviest thing JUDAS PRIEST has done since Painkiller, taking influences from Rob Halford’s solo albums and his Fight side-project with surprisingly sharp, focused songwriting. The title track’s heavy riffing and straight-ahead domineering. There’s a Painkiller era flavour and intensity. Also, it recalls Halford's Resurrection material. It’s satisfyingly heavy and Halford sounds in good form, screeching and growling along with the extra crunchy riffs. Lighting Strikes is quite catchy. It keeps the momentum going with another heavy track full of thick riffs and heroic vocals.What makes this album such a pleasant surprise is how consistently good it is and the sheer number of album high points. Never The Heroes has a simple but deceptively addictive chorus that really sticks. Rising From The Ruins is the best song the band’s written since 1990, steeped in rebellious attitude and vintage metal tricks and tropes. Halford delivers a powerful and poignant performance on a very upbeat, fist pumping 'defeat the world' kind of song with a great chorus. Spectre is also impressive, meaty and ultra catchy, with some interesting guitar-work woven around the edges. The production is loud, heavy and powerful and works great with this material. An awesome package for an awesome album!

'Firepower' is a superb album. It had me hooked from first listen - and all three subsequent consecutive listens! In my opinion, it's the best thing they've done since 'Painkiller' and ranks firmly in my top three Judas Priest albums of all time. It's that good.

And so is the packaging of this limited special edition deluxe version. I've never seen a CD packaged like this. It's a proper hard-backed book, with 24, full-colour glossy pages, with artwork, lyrics and credits throughout. The CD is in the last page slip-sleeve. It has a beautiful matte finish exterior, with the front cover artwork and logo raised and glossy. Truly stunning presentation, befitting for such an album. Read full review...

Just a really great album

Strong songs and great performances from the lads. Only issue is I can't get my stereo to go loud enough! Fave tracks are Firepower, Flamethrower and Traitors Gate.
