Simple replacement for old units

Great Smoke Detectors.......But DON'T forget the base, sold separately.

These smoke detectors are quite attractive, without looking too unsightly, on the ceiling.

A reassuring green light comes on, when they are energized, and the lithium rechargeable battery, is sealed into the unit, and does not require further attention, from the installer, or homeowner, for the life span of the smoke detector.

This is the most critical part of my review, not mentioned on the Smoke detector box, you will need to purchase a separate base, to facilitate the connections, this will also give you depth of clearance, for the connection block, otherwise you will need to take a chunk out the ceiling (any holes should be re-filled, as they create a chimney affect, for the fire to pass through, and spread).

Without the base, connecting up the units becomes fidgety, messy, and time consuming, but the base eliminates all that hassle.

I purchased 3 smoke detectors (KF420R) to install for a client, I completely negated to purchase the base, fortunately, the client had existing Kidde smoke alarms, and I "re-purposed", the existing bases, for the job, fortunately the client didn't mind the older, slightly yellowing base, against the new white smoke detectors.

The bases are compatible, with many Kidde smoke detectors, they are called: "Kidde SMK4896 Surface Mounting Pattress Plate", or something very similar, and you'll be very pleased with your purchase

Good for landlords as no batteries to change. I consider it unsafe for tenants to change batteries in mains interlinked detectors due to live lead.
