Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac with Jeremy Spencer Live in London in 1968

The sound quality isn't great but it's quite listenable if you like early Fleetwood Mac. The guitars and drums seemed clearest to me, with the vocals and bass guitar ( I couldn't really hear the bass) lower in the mix. Jeremy Spencer sings and plays slide guitar (with Peter Green on rhythm guitar) for tracks 1, 2, 3, 4 and 10 and then Peter Green sings and plays wonderful guitar on tracks 5 to 9 inclusive. I expect tracks 5 to 9 are just Green, Fleetwood and McVie, with Spencer not playing guitar at all. The audience are too chatty and this is noticeable more on the slow tracks, though they give tremendous applause to the Peter Green sung tracks. The booklet in this version of the CD is not informative about this concert - it's just a brief history of the band right through to the 90s. This is certainly worth buying if you can get it for under £2, which should be very easy to do.Read full review...

Live '68 same as The Dream

I got this CD as i love Mac's later stuff. I have collected Mac on vinyl then CD from "Rumours" time. I was going retro and finding out how far i could go back and still like their work. As i said i got this CD and another called "The Dream" at the same time. The Dream disc was scratched, but my God the sound quality was really crap. Think of a large pub, your at one end and the band at the other, round a corner, with a room full of noise and everything sounds like it's in an echo chamber. Put all that in mono with very poor recording equipment, say an old hand held mono tape deck with an automatic built-in mic. You cannot here the music or lyrics properly, or at all at times. I threw it aside to try the live '68. To my dismay it was the same track listing, a far clearer rendition one but still low quality by todays standards. This one could be listened to, but it is not really enjoyable. Regardless of the music/lyrics it is just the lack of recording quality that makes both of these CD's not worth it. If you like their modern ('74-present) music, then i would suggest to stay with the albums that have stevie and lindsey or before them with chrissy.Read full review...

Great blues but terrible sound quality

As an example of the earliest Fleetwood Mac incarnation (pre Danny Kirwin) this album does give a fair indication of how the band sounded performing live.As a result it serves its purpose. However the quality of the sound recoding is very low-fi mono with so much background echo that no matter how one fiddles with the graphic equalizer it's quite hard to make out some of the lyrics. I don't know the source of the recording but it sound much more 'bootleg' than I was expecting. Even though the magical guitar picking of Green & Spencer survives the poor recording rather better than the vocals it is still something of a test to sit through the whole album at one go.
Fleetwood Mac in the late 1960s were a totally dedicated blues band - a million miles from the smooth rocker/pop act of later years and many of the songs here have that certain sameness about them as a result. If you love raw electric-blues played by excellent musicians in a rather earthy enviroment, then you will appreciate this alubum but if Fleetwood Mac to you is THE CHAIN or even ALBATROSS, then it's something of a culture shock!
