Good product for a good price
This (s)trimmer has useful and easy to use features. The repositionable front handle is much better and easier to move than my previous one. The moveable cutting head is great and each movement works well. My only criticism is the ergonomics of the trigger handle. It becomes very difficult to work continuously because it's awkward to hold the trigger 'on' since it moves - and turns on - at the front of the trigger rather than the back. A Switch problem
The safety lock and switch are a nightmare. The slightest easing of pressure on the switch and the machine turns off so the safety lock has to be pressed - over - and over - and over during a cut.. There is no way to override the safety lock. My old and faithful Power Trim 500 was so much more user friendly and I wish I had never bought this new one. It looks good, the handle adjustment is good, the edging roller is good, the head angle adjustment is good. The problem is how to keep it going as you use it because of that blasted switch! Disappointing experience
I did plenty of research and decided the 500E strimmer would be right for me. I got a competitive price on line, super quick free delivery but that was about it for the good points.
It was easy enough to assemble but the first problem was the height adjuster that was, and still is locked solid. I am a fairly strong guy but I cant budge it.
Then on my first trial run I found that the auto feed system wasn't working. I pulled out the spool and rewound the line as instructed but it still doesn't work. I can still use the machine but it would be better if everything works as it should. I guess I've been unlucky and bought a bad one.Read full review...

Prefer previous model
Preferred the previous Flymo power trim. It was lighter to use and more flexible and did exactly the same job. The new one seems to be more cumbersome, heavier the handle switch is stiffer. May get used to it but a bit disappointed.Read full review...

This is on the whole a well made strimmer, however I cant give it 5 stars because the metal plant guard is too lose a fit to the machine and easily dislodged, also the guide wheel for the edging feature does not rotate freely. Dose what it says on the box
Arrived today unpacked. Instructions are a bit vivid but once I got my head around them it was plain sailing . Did a test run. The only negative is the strimming line ran out quickly. I think once you have used this a couple of times you can gauge the output of the line so you don’t have to keep stopping and re-setting the line. Overall it’s a great garden piece of equipment. I’ve had a flymo strimmer before and that’s why I went for this make and model. Always look after your equipment and clean it every time and it will last a lifetime.Read full review...

heavy to use
Had to change the cutting line straight away as it kept breaking. It was very frustrating. The line cutter has no cutting edge ,its just a round piece of metal. and I have to trim the cord manually, with a scissors, as it wont trim the heavier duty line. I am sorry I bought it.Read full review...
