Fosmon Skype camera

The built-in cam in my wife's laptop had lost the drivers and I couldn't restore them, so I bought this one to try out. The price was right. It's basically OK, except the image is way too close-up and you really have to move back from the camera to get a proper image. That's really the only thing wrong, otherwise the rating would have been higher. The review question for

Cheap, clear still image, Outdated - Only 1.5Megapixels to synthesize 12 Megapixels

Its an OK webcam if a bit dated. 12megapixels is hype for some imagined software enhancement. The webcam is only 1.5 Megapixels in hardware according to manufacturer. Yes images are reversed in the left to right. So no reading books placed in view.

View field is pretty close up which is good for facial recognition. Actually a bit too close up as you may have to place camera 3-5 feet away to get whole head in view. Hate to contemplate how far away webcam needs to be to get a full head and shoulders framing.

Oh the six LEDs are pretty useless unless the room is very very dark.But with good lamp light on face, colors are much better than typical laptop built-in webcam.

Definitely a bit less than full motion streaming on USB 2.0 connection to 3rd Gen i7 laptop processor. Mouth significantly lags and jumps while talking. Connection and CPU tends to say its a webcam hardware limitation to probably 10-15 fps at most.

Finally No autofocus -- which can actually be a plus. Avoids the constant refocus problems some cameras have due to poor sensors or overcompensating for slight movements of subject. For this webcam just keep a fairly steady distance between yourself and the mounting spot. If you go too far out of fairly broad focus sweet spot, just be assured that its instantly back in focus the moment you return head to correct distance.Read full review

You get what you pay for, that being said for what amounts to about a Lunch at McD's priced camera, you get a strong simple to install, just plug it in and turn on the computer and Viola! you have a video feed and audio stream you can tap into.
