Garmin GPS III Plus Handheld

Typical "iii Pus" but zero scratches on this one!!

I have a few of these for various projects around the house and also use one on my motorcycle with the velcro strip. I did receive this and the screen showed "low memory battery" .. no biggy - just install 4 new AA batteries, power it off, and let it sit overnight. Whamo! Worked for a few days. Then, I couldn't get it to come on -- again, no biggy as I have the cigarette lighter cable that came with a boxes set. Works again -- however, I can no longer use it just on battery power -- it is one of the major flaws the "iii Plus" has had with each one I owned. I had sent one of my others in to Garmin and they replaced the internal battery, but they no longer perform the service. And, I don't lose saved items, so this one isn't due to that. Good for Sailboat Race Management

I bought this specifically to be able to mark a point and then return it with a bearing and distance. For that it has worked very well but there were some changes needed on the display. The manual helped with that. For the price and for my use it was a value. I'm reluctant to rate it with stars because while it is good for what I bought it for, another buyer with a different expectations may not find it useful. Read full review

Garmin should have never stopped making these

I had owned and used extensively one of these in the past, found it very handy as a back up for the electronics in my boat, made the mistake of leaving batteries in it over the winter, corrosion destroyed it , I had difficulty finding anything comparable and was pleased to find this one , lucky that the case, dash mount and powercord i had were still quite useable as this did not include them. Good for setting your own waypoints, and routes. Tells you your average speed, the direction and how far you have gone. Small screen but readable. 4 AA batteries and you are good to go.

Great unit

I have 5 of these units. I use them for my off road dirt bikes because they have tracking (breadcrumbs) that mark every 20' of everywhere you go so you can't get lost. When I looked at it on the website it had that new look so I took a chance and purchased it. When I received it, I was right. Garmin GPS 3+

This device best use is for open road racing. Set up is a little complex but easy once understood. Battery life is not that great due to demand of finding and locking up to satellites.
