Glasvegas are here!

Glasvegas has a big new wave sound by way of U2's "Joshua Tree." It is a polished album and the sounds of the music overtake the lyrics which are about loss, dread, death and violence. I do not see the comparisons to the Jesus and Mary Chain that are being thrown around. This band is totally different... it has no reverb sounds as heavy as JAMC's "Psychocandy" does. Maybe it's just one album that they are comparing it to, I don't know, but "Psychocandy" is the trademark sound of JAMC and Glasvegas are less about reverb and more about a new wave sound, harkening back to the new wave of the late 70's early 80's. For mee, they sound more like Soft Cell or Human League ala "Don't You Want Me, Baby."

I enjoy listening to Glasvegas, but here in the year 2008, I have music with a modern sound that I would rather hear (Deerhunter, The Music Tapes, Shugo Tokumaru for example). But I bought Glasvegas because it is worth my time and a place in my cd collection. It has good music, melodies and I like the Scottish accent in the vocals...the lyrics try to be very sad, but there is only one or two songs on the album that make me feel sad. Enough said...it's a good record.

What happened to real music?

Having read so much hype about this album the feeling of disappointment is huge. I can't help feeling this CD would have been better as an instrumental. No track stands out from the rest as being good and 'Stabbed' is what whoever thought up such pitiful drivel should be. So often the laboured lyrics are spoken over the backing music; what happened to singing?
Don't waste your money on this crap and if you do, play the last 3 tracks with the volume on zero!!

No problem , this band will be headlining Glasto in 2/3 years. Anthemic tunes from a band that will have the masses singing till the fat lady sings the xxxx
