Gorilla Tips probably provide the best solution to continue playing a guitar when the tips of fingers have become very sore due to pressure from steel strings especially on guitars with a high action.
However there is a compromise to be made of making the fingers slightly wider where you have to ensure more precise fretting, but more importantly the fingers tips suffer from reduced sensitivity.
