Another PlayStation 2 Classic

Antonio Cipriani or "Tony", for short, works for the crime boss Salvatore Leone in Liberty City. They combat other Italian mafia groups such as the "Forellis" and the "Sindaccos". Tony's main duty is to make sure Salvatore makes it to the top and eliminate all obstacles.

Things I Liked About the Game
---------------------------------------------------------------
• The games' missions can be challenging, especially if you do not use any cheat codes

• The in-game music is nice to sing along to (although, I mostly listened to "Flashback FM")

• Multiple minigames are available (racing, taxi driving, working as the police, working as a car salesman, Chainsaw Massacre minigame, etc)

• The cut scenes and story are interesting to watch and there is always that GTA satirical humor

• Relatively quick loading times.

• These were the days when we did not have to install games... we just put the disc in and played it

Things I Disliked About the Game
---------------------------------------------------------------
• Some missions are annoying, especially if you do not use any cheat codes
- You die relatively quickly

• Features such as swimming, crouching and being able to climb are not available like how you could do in "Grand Theft Auto San Andreas", which came out a year before this game

• The police (and everyone else) can pull you out of the car and bust you, even if you are driving off; this can be a thorn in your side

• The weapons are pretty expensive in this game

Tips for Playing this Game
-------------------------------------------------
• After every mission, save your game, especially if you got a lot of weapons for free during the mission. For this reason, if you die in the next mission without saving, you will lose all of your weapons

• Always buy armor before doing a mission

• The sniper rifle is good for staying far away and taking out enemies; this will allow you to take out enemies without you yourself taking damage in the process.

Received the incorrect game

I received "GTA Vice City Stories" instead of "GTA Liberty City Stories" Other then that Delivering time was pretty good and no other complaints.

For the not so crazy PS2- GTA fans

After getting hooked to GTA- San Andreas, and not ever being able to beat it, I decided to buy GTA- Liberty City. This game isn't as hard as GTA- San Andreas was for me, but it's addictive.
The language...so far.. is much better (but i have the "hot coffee" edition of San Andreas)
I'm still learning the ropes, but so far, this game is very fun.
Changing Clothes-
This is alot easier in GTA- Liberty City, just hit the left or right button, and you've changed.
Music Options-
There is alot more of a range of music stations on this game..ALOT
Controls-
some of the ways to change things are different in this game compared to san andreas.
City-
Liberty City has alot of similarity to San Andreas "look" wise, as there are some of the same layouts.
-------------------------
If you can get this game for under $20- I would highly recommend buying it and giving it a shot. It is fun, has some challenge, and I'm sure... will get better as I get farther into the game.
---------
CON: you CAN NOT swim in the Liberty City GTA- you will just drown.

GTA Liberty City Stories

So begins another GTA title. In Liberty City Stories you play as a familiar face, Toni Cipriani From GTA 3. The Story takes place as a prelude to GTA 3, Even before sal was the mob boss of the area. If your familiar with GTA 3 then getting around liberty city will be no problem for you as the city is excatly the same with a few exceptions as this story takes place before GTA 3 there are some different buildings and land that hasnt been developed yet.

While the game is not quite on par with San Andreas, lets be fair, its a port over from PSP. Game play is the same as always only Toni cant swim like CJ can in San Andreas. Grgaphics are fair, a bit better then Vice City but not as good as San Andreas. Theres now Motorcycles but no Bikes or Helicopters, come to think of it, I dont remember flying any planes either.

Theres side missions Galore in Liberty city ctories. Theres a Trash dash on all 3 islands where you need to run around the city and collect trash in an alloted time. There a car and bike salesmen side mission where of course the object is to sell cars or motorcycles. This was a fun mission for me. Theres an Avenging Angels mission on all three islands. The Avenging angels are like a crime watch group who take the law into there own hands. The object of these missions are to take down Liberty Citys Gangs. theres more vehical missions like in San Andreas theres, Pizza boy, Noddle boy, and a few where you ride on the back of a Motor cycle or Scooter and shot the "bad" guys as well as a few more.

Overall if your a GTA fan Liberty City Stories will be a welcome game to add to your collection.

Ping Pow

I liked the game overall because it takes you back to the GTA 3 roots. When GTA 3 came out awhile ago I about s**t myself,I played it alot I beat it 100% hidden packages and all 3 different times, then Vice City came out and of course I liked it but I didnt like that it was in the 80's.Next came out San Andreas and shut them all down with basically being able to do anything, customize cars fly planes, sky dive, and so on...but the whole time Ive been wanting another GTA in liberty city.I left games for awhile and had no clue of this game coming out until i was flipping through ads and seen it,i did know it was on psp though. This game has great story lines and more, its fun to drive around and see how things use to be before GTA3's story.Anyways overall this is a great game but if you are looking for a San Andreas sequel this game isnt it.Read full review...

PSP makes it look good

The graphics on this game are horrible,it's like blowing up the psp version to fit the size t.v. screen you have.Liberty City looks more like a city with gaps missing in the building, streets, sidewalks, etc. The missions. . wow I can't even tell you how that is.It's way to easy,if you ever followed the GTA series starting with the first one on PS1 it makes this game cake compared to GTA.(the original)Cops are easy to outrun and take out as well.I was seeing how high I can get my wanted level up with out dying and it took forever for all 5 stars to finally pop up.Then I went to go for a chase and see if they could catch me,well that didn't happened I outrunned them with ease. Now the good things about it are the side missions such as car salesman, pizza delivery, and many more. Also the pricing is good as well. . .some stores such as fry's were selling it for $10 which is way better than $20 because I honestly think the game should have just been given to everybody for free.So if you never played the psp version it's worth a try however if you're looking for something different than what the psp version offered, the only thing different you'll get are the horrific graphics on it,or should I say enlarged version of the psp.Read full review...

Average Game

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories fpr the Playstation 2 is a direct port
transfer from the Playstation Portable (PSP) version. The graphics look average
to almost bad. The game was designed for a smaller screen.

To have Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories to look a good as Grand Theft
Auto 3, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, or Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Rockstar
Games would have to redo all of the graphics from the ground up. With the other
Grand Theft Auto games on the Playstation 2, Rockstar Games would have had to
design Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories for the Playstation 2.

The game takes place some 10 years after Grand Theft Auto 3. If you know the
city lay out of Grand Theft Auto 3, you need to drive around Grand Theft Auto:
Liberty City Stories to get aquainted lay out of the new areas to see what was
added.

Tony (the guy you play as in Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories) is
not the guy you play as in Grand Theft Auto 3. The guy from Grand Theft Auto 3
has no name. Accorting to Rockstar Games Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories
is not a sequal to Grand Theft Auto 3, it just takes place in Liberty City. As
does Grand Theft Auto 3.

consider renting it

First of all, I admit, more features have been added: motorcycles, more weapons. But, the game's storyline gets repetitive. Doing missions where somehow many 'unfortunate' circumstances cause you to be timed seem all-too-fake. Plus, when I beat the game, I didn't even know it was the last mission because it was easy and it takes 1 or 2 tries.

If you ask me, you should rent this game because it's mildly short, the story is somewhat weak, the lack of variety in vehicles makes cars repetitive, the game is easy, and the side rampages and races hardly provide any greatness.

I dont have much positive feedback for this game except for the somewhat variety of weapons and added motorcycles. Why did I give it 3/5? Because I truly enjoyed GTAIII and this is an upgraded version of that. I suggest anyone reading this give it a shot, but renting it is the bottom line.

Could've been much, much better!

It's just like every other GTA game, I dont wanna spoil it for you , but this is basically just GTA:3 (Liberty City) all over again, only this time with different missions and bosses to "work" for, the map is pretty much the same, except for a few, very small variations being that the "City" was in a different time than the original Lib City- (*Poor continuity that this one is based in "1987 Lib City" which would be after the original that was based in 1984 yet the city seems older than the first one, especially with all the references to there being a "Ferry" and "Ferry Workers Strike" instead of it having the tunnel to Staunton Island!). This game is your typical Glitch-filled "Rockstar-Games" atrocity, I have yet to get thru even at least 1 hour of playing this game without it freezing or crashing (my PS2 is NEW and it's the newer generation silver unit that NEVER has crashed or froze up on ANY game before, and I DONT use "Cheats"!) Maybe it was done on a poor programing platform I guess? You dont have all the pedestrians saying the hysterical stuff in this one while they walk around the streets like the original Lib City or Vice City had, this one IS way more "P.C." and quiet and doesn't make fun of too much stuff like some of the older GTA games did. Also, there are absolutely NO "Rock" or "Metal" stations on the in-car radios like the old one had so be prepared to either hear nothing but real, pure garbage (like crappy techno and out-house noise) as far as music goes! (I keep the music volume down on this one or I leave it tuned to the Talk Station, which has it's funny moments). They could've made this one sooo much better and filled it with everything the first one didnt have since it is a sequal, too bad they didnt! The Original Lib City was better, The Original Vice City was way better and San Andreas was much better! I wouldnt waste ANY ammount of money on this one unless your really hooked on the GTA series of Clone games and have to have it!Read full review...

A nice return to the city that started it all.

Grand Theft Auto III was the first game of its kind that I'd played, and I still play it--and the games which followed--often. There was no question that I would buy Liberty City Stories when it was finally released for Playstation 2.

Liberty City Stories is closer to GTA III in its use of controls. The directional buttons can be used as well as the stick to guide young Toni Cipriani around, unlike the stick-only control in San Andreas.

Motorcycles and scooters have been added to the line-up of vehicles Toni can choose from, making the old neighborhoods a new playground for unique jumps.

The new missions are challenging, even to old pros at the other games in the series. Like San Andreas, some missions require races to advance in the game, unlike GTA III, which kept the races as optional.

The biggest complaint I have is that the map uses the same color-coding which was introduced in San Andreas, where some targets are dark blue on a black road. Not easy for people with vision problems, but hardly something to stop anyone from getting a great game that to my mind has earned its place alongside some legendary games.

Overall, for the low price, I would definitely suggest this game to any fans of the GTA franchise who are looking for more to do in the dangerous city we all love so much.

GTA: Liberty City Stories - Dissapointing !!

After passing GTA: San Andreas, this game is a huge dissapointment. I thought it would be the "next in the series" ie, better than the last. I was sorely mistaken. This game seems to use the same engine as the original GTA3 game, with little or no improvements. Of course that means that compared to GTA:San Andreas, it sucked. There are no airplanes, copters, or jet packs, you can't go into any buildings, and the rendering is far and beneath the previous game.

The most dissapointing thing, after all that is considered,is that they make the weapons and police bribes EXTREMELY hard to get. Contrary to the last game, where you could just drive or walk up and collect one once you have found it, in this game you have to do a stunt jump, or climb up to the top of a building to collect your prize. In the middle of a mission or under fire, this is extremely hard to do, and very frustrating. The missions are so basic, it's almost like the "mission" is to obtain the weapon or bribe. Pretty lame.

If you've finished with GTA:San Andreas, and are thinking of selling it, my advice would be to keep it and just use it to play around with after you are done with (and have quickly sold) GTA:Liberty City stories. That way you can fly your planes, copters, jet packs, play roulette or craps, pick up your girl and go dancing, and many side missions (vigilante, fireman, taxi, ambulance, etc.) not available in the newer game.
