The Birth of The Red Lantern Corps. And the beginning of “Blackest Night”.

While trying to write this review I tried to give a plot summary without giving too much away. This book isn’t nearly as stand alone or as impressive as the previous installment “The Sinestro Corps War” Though it should be pointed out this book was focused more on universe building for the coming big event that most everyone associates Geoff Johns’ run, “Blackest Night”. However it does wrap up some stories that were started earlier on in this run, it even begins new ones. Those who want to read this installment should at least look at the previous installments to appreciate this story more. Those who do, should be pretty happy they did.
Johns’ writing continues to be pretty good, some of the emotion that “Rebirth” and “Sinestro Corps War” is here, as Hal Jordan-Green Lantern faces more of his emotions, and The Green Lantern Corps is put through another personal trial.
The art for this comic is consistently pretty good. Some impressive visuals here and settings, as we return to the evil world of “Ysmault” and are introduced to the home world of Ganthet and Sayd’s new Corps.
This book is part 7 of 13 of Geoff Johns’ run on Green Lantern, and for what was intended as filler does a good job at keeping things interesting and getting the readers ready for what happens next.
