Great tool for the Homeowner to have when you want the Job done and dont want to pay too much

This Dethatcher is an excellent value for the homeowner who needs to power rake their lawn for a low cost. This unit more than pays for itself when you compare the cost renting a commercial unit or even the costs for paying a lawn professional to do it for you that one time.

The performance is in the "ball park" of the much higher costing units. Keep in mind that the homeowner would possibly use this unit 1 or 2 times in a season, so to be practical, this electric Lawn tool is not designed for constant use (like a commercial unit would be). But keeping that in mind, it will easily dethatch the lawn. You may have to do a second pass to remove the most material (max), I did not have a problem with this.

The unit is not heavy at all. It is constructed of heavy gauge plastic, but it is build well enough to do the job and not be worried that the thing may fall apart.

Bottom line. I have to say that I am more that pleased that I made the purchase, both with performance and price point / budget. It get's my endorsement.

Great machine!

Great machine for the price and does great job of dethatching lawn. So easy to use and cuts the time in half if you were using dethatcher rake. Took literally 20 mins to do my front lawn. I love this product!!! Best money i ever spent. Read full review

It does the job as advertised...

First things first. This is an electric machine so having at least two long "orange" extension cords is a must for most large yards. The second thing I learned is that the *grass needs to be cut low to the ground with a bagging mower prior to use. As I churned up my 1/2 acre lot, I was constantly moving the cord out of the way. I ended up creating "block" sections where I would go north and south and then I would return to the same area going east and west. This seemed to produce the most dead grass and also eliminated the need to constantly move the cords out of the way with each long pass. My back yard produced about 8 large trash bags full of debris while my front yard produced over 10 (*done twice in two weeks), I was very happy with this produce and I look forward to overseeding the lawn at the end of September and hopefully restore a lawn that took a beating during these hot days of summer.Read full review

Worked better than expected

This worked very well considering the small size. Light weight, very easy to assemble. Best for a small lawn. I was concerned about stressing the motor so I did the lawn in sections. There is a learning curve with the power cord placement and the actual dethatching bar is narrower than one might think. I used the highest setting and removed a large amount of thatch. Pulled 15 wheel barrels full of thatch out of a half of an acre. I tried to do the lawn by hand with a thatching rake, very labor intensive and the rake was a third of the cost of his machine.Read full review

Easy and amazing

I have used a pull behind dethatcher which is OK. This machine after the pull behind was so efficient it pulled dead grass to the dirt. I reseeded and already have new grass filling in those areas where dethatching was needed. I would recommend this machine. I wish I had purchased the one with bagging, but for the money and a few bags of dead grass you can't go wrong Read full review

INCREDIBLE!!!!

INCREDIBLE!!!!! Was absolutely shocked that this electric thatcher did the job that it did!!!! It’s the first electric yard tool that I have ever bought. I took a chance on it and was glad I did. It gets up so much dead grass. I have a small yard and I took out 9 1/2 barrels (32 gal) of dead grass. My friends laughed at me for buying an electric thatcher, now they all want to use it. I highly recommend this this thatcher. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.Read full review

GreenWorks Dethatcher really works.

I have an acre lot and wanted to get grass seed planted on many bare spots and to over seed in other areas. I used a #12 wire 100’ extension cord in able to reach my entire yard. This dethatcher performed above my expectations. Raking all the thatch afterwards was the hardest job. The tines on this dethatcher also made enough grooves at my bare spots to allow the grass seed to get buried, much like a slit seeder I’ve rented in the past. Well worth the purchase. Greenworks Dethatcher

This dethatcher is heavy enough to do the job correctly. I usually dethatch with my rake, but decided it was time to find something different. I did the area first with number 3 and then did it was level 2. Afterwards, I took my mower with a catcher and got up the dead grass. It filled a complete lawn bag. I am very impressed with the weight, its ability to take the dead grass to the surface. Although I won't use it much over the year, it certainly makes the lawn look better. For those who don't use corded equipment...well, it can be a challenge until you establish a method to drag the cord along as you mow. Yes, it's easier to use equipment without a cord, but it sure makes it nice not to maintain it with gas, oil and storage. Read full review
