Should be called the Island of Death AND all the Naval engagements.

This DVD while informative was a bit TOO informative. It explained a lot of the battle as a whole, not just on the island, but everything about it, from the naval engagements to surrounding island battles. I was disappointed that it did not concentrate on the island itself, and the heroes that won the battle. Not once did it mention John Basilone, or talk about the Medals of Honor won by the Marines first enlisted man, Col. Edson or MG Vandergrift. More veteran interviews would have made it better. More filming of the battles on land, too much sea battles, even though they were part of the campaign. It was the ISLAND OF DEATH, not the water of death surrounding the island. Not to take anything away from the USN, but I was taken back by how much cover the sea battles got for the title of this DVD. Overall satisfied with the deep knowledge, but...well, more USMC, less USN. And I'm an US Army veteran.Read full review...

Guadalcanal

Good in depth story about the experiences of the American and Japanese forces that clashed on the island, but also the sea and in the air.
I was not aware of some of the things that were brought out in the DVD and so the material about the people and conditions gave me more insight on what had taken place.
It is excellant and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to more about what took place on Guadalcanal.
Thank God (or your Higher Power), that we had that spirit from a great generation of people that knew they had to do.
I hope that all Americans can keep that type of tradition and pride forever!
